As Pokemon is one of Nintendo’s biggest partner franchises, one could expect the September 12 Nintendo Direct to have a few surprise announcements. These could be related to the upcoming Pokemon Legends Z-A, or a completely new game from the franchise. So in this article, we will take a look at possible Pokemon-related announcements that could be made on the September 12 Nintendo Direct.

3 Possible Pokemon Announcements on the September 12 Nintendo Direct

These are among the possible things related to the Pokemon franchise that could get a spotlight:

  • Pokemon Legends Z-A related content.
  • A new Pokemon spin-off.
  • The next Generation of Pokemon games.

Over the last few weeks, the Pokemon franchise has been rigorously promoting the upcoming Legends Z-A. This includes revealing new Mega Evolutions with cinematic trailers, with the most recent being Mega Malamar. So, to further promote the new game, it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for it to get a partner showcase on the September 12 Nintendo Direct.

Though it’s unlikely to be a new Mega Evolution reveal, as these have had detailed marketing campaigns so far, new gameplay or characters are always on the table.

2) A New Pokemon Spin-off

Pokemon spin-off games have seen decent popularity, with the upcoming Pokemon Champions even being touted for competitive play from Worlds 2026 onwards. Still, not all of them have to be serious competitive fare. Games like Pokemon Cafe ReMix and Pokemon Sleep have also been fairly popular. So, as part of the September 12 Nintendo Direct, we could see an announcement for a new Pokemon spin-off being made.

This could be a new game for mobile users like Pokemon GO. Alternatively, it could be something for the Switch 2 like New Pokémon Snap was for its predecessor, a beloved remake of the older game. Or it could be something new entirely.

3) The Next Generation of Pokemon Games

While this remains the least likely, as The Pokemon Company usually makes these announcements themselves, there is a possibility that we see the next Generation of Pokemon games announced.

At this moment, Pokemon is in a bit of a transition. Pokemon Legends Z-A, similar to its predecessor, is celebrating a past region. Worlds 2025 has just ended, and, as mentioned previously, the main VGC competition will be moved to a different game entirely. Even the Pokemon TCG is awaiting a new expansion focusing on Mega Evolutions. So, having an announcement, even a teaser, for a new mainline series of games might be something to keep fans’ interests.
