Collect Tyrogue and Candy
You’ll need multiple Tyrogue to complete all three evolutions. Start by focusing on how to find and collect them.
There are four main methods:
- Hatching Eggs.
- Completing specific research tasks.
- Trading with friends.
- Occasionally available in events.
Once you’ve caught or hatched a few, pay attention to their stats. Each evolution depends on a different one. Candy collection matters, too. Every evolution costs 25 Candy, so you’ll need at least 75 to evolve three Tyrogue. You can collect more by:
- Walking with Tyrogue as your Buddy.
- Transferring extras to Professor Willow.

Evolve Tyrogue Into Hitmonchan
If Defense is your Tyrogue’s top stat, it will evolve into Hitmonchan. Again, check stats carefully. Even a small difference matters.
This evolution also costs 25 Candy. Hitmonchan can learn a variety of punching moves, some of which cover types beyond Fighting. That variety makes it a flexible addition to your team. It balances offense and defense, making it suitable for different battle formats.
Evolve Tyrogue Into Hitmontop
The third path requires a Tyrogue with the highest Stamina. If you’ve got one with this specific stat lead, you’re ready for Hitmontop.
You’ll need the same amount of Candy—25—to evolve it. Hitmontop is often valued more for defense. While it has a limited move set compared to the others, it includes Close Combat, a high-risk, high-reward move. Use it wisely, as it reduces your stats after use.

Working With Shiny Tyrogue
Shiny forms of Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, and Hitmontop are available. To get them, start with a shiny Tyrogue. The evolution method stays the same, only the appearance differs.
Feed 25 Candy to your shiny Tyrogue, and make sure to choose the correct one based on its top stat. Once evolved, the shiny form remains consistent with the base you started with.
Make sure to evolve only after confirming the stat lead. Shiny forms are rare, and evolving the wrong one can set you back significantly.
