Pyroar is a Fire/Normal type first introduced in Generation VI. As its typing might indicate, it was not particularly great competitively. Especially since its stats are very poor for a full evolved Pokemon. So let’s see if its new Mega Evolution helps it out in this regard.

These are the moves you want to use on your Pyroar, especially if you are looking to Mega Evolve it later.

  • Hyper Voice
  • Flamethrower
  • Earth Power
  • Snarl

Mega Pyroar receives +20 to all of its stats. While this leaves it a bit underwhelming overall, its Speed is now very respectable. This makes it a very useful revenge killer if it has Speed investment. However, its Special Attack stat is poor for a Mega, so it needs to split investment between those two.

All of Pyroar’s best moves are level-up moves. Hyper Voice and Flamethrower are great STABs, learned at levels 42 and 32, respectively. Earth Power is a great coverage for Rock-types and can be learned at level 28. Finally, Snarl serves as great coverage against Ghost-types and lowers the target’s Special Attack by one stage. Pyroar learns it at level 16.

Buy the Pyroarite at Quasartico Inc. for 240 Mega Shards. However, you can only buy it after completing the main mission 35 “Reaching Rank A.”

Depending on how you feel, you could either run a Timid (+Spe, -Atk) or a Modest (+SpA, -Atk) nature. The stat you invest in will lead you to compromise on the other. You can get a Modest mint at a vendor in Rouge Sector 1 and a Timid Mint at a vendor at Vert Sector 6.
