Here’s a walkthrough for the Reaching Rank D mission in Pokemon Legends Z-A and some tips to beat the trainers, including Ivor.
Reaching Rank D mission is where you get your next promotion after defeating Ivor in a battle. However, before you do that, you’ll have to collect another Challenger Ticket. This means another session of grinding enough points to get yourself a ticket.
That said, this mission is not as straightforward as the rest. You will have to battle other trainers before you can get to your main opponent. To help you out, here is a walkthrough for the Reaching Rank D mission in Pokemon Legends Z-A.

How To Complete Reaching Rank D in Pokemon Legends Z-A
After completing the events in A Job for Team MZ, you will discuss your promotion with Ivor. To challenge him, you must first collect 35,000 Ticket Points to earn a Challenger’s Ticket. Once you have the ticket, you can then use fast travel to reach Fist of Justice Dojo.
How To Defeat Josee
Once you reach the dojo, you won’t immediately find Ivor. Instead, you will come face-to-face with Josee. The battle will be quick as she will only battle with two Pokemon.
Here is a quick rundown of her team composition:

Once you defeat Josee, you receive the Seed of Mystery item as a reward.
Help Ivor Find His Sister
Once the battle is over, Ivor will appear asking if you could help him find his sister, Gwynn. You need to make your way to the Looker Bureau and ask for help. It is revealed that you can find Ivor’s sister in the city hall.
However, Gynn is still nowhere to be found here. If you explore further, you can find someone on the east side of the city hall with a “The Fist of Justice, huh?” dialogue bubble. Interact with this person to get your next clue. This will lead you to Nouveau Cafe in the Vert District.
How to Defeat Canari
Gwynn will not be in the area either. But you at least get another clue leading you to Canari of DYN4MO. Make your way to the southern edge of Vert District. Speak with Canari, and she will offer to exchange a clue for a battle.
Here is her team composition:

Take note how her team has a common weakness to Ground-type moves. Use this to your advantage. Once you defeat Canari, she will give you a clue that leads you to an area with a Clawitzer fountain. Simply follow the market to reach the location.

Gain Access to the Sewers
Before anything else, you need a Pokemon that can use Ice Beam. This is because you need to freeze the fountain to gain access to the sewers. If you don’t have this move yet, you can find the Ice Beam TM in Wild Zone 12, in the middle of the battle court.
If you have the move, proceed to the fountain and freeze the water. This will reveal a path leading to the entrance to the sewer section of the city. The gate leading deep into the sewer is locked. Just inspect every nook and cranny of the gate to open it.
This will lead you to a Klefki that you must catch. Once you do, you will find out that even this Pokemon doesn’t have the key. After exhausting all other options, Ivor will bust the door open for you.
Explore the Sewers
You need to head north, deeper into the sewers. Eventually, you’ll stumble upon a Chandelure that disappears after you reach your destination. In the area, you will need to investigate for clues.
After investigating the area, you will find Gwynn, who will challenge you to battle.
How to Defeat Gwynn
Gwynn is using a Ghost-type team. This means they have a common weakness to Dark-types.

Once you defeat Gwynn, Ivor will finally challenge you to battle. Here is a quick rundown of his team:

After defeating Ivor, you complete the Reaching Rank D mission in Pokemon Legends Z-A. Aside from the promotion, you also receive the TM011 Bulk Up item. Afterwards, you proceed to the next mission, which is A Request from the Rust Syndicate.
