Learn about the way to play an Arboliva Ex deck in the current Pokemon TCG meta and the best cards that work alongside it.

Arboliva ex is the latest in a series of indirect damage dealers. Introduced in the Destined Rivals expansion, Arboliva ex’s first move (Oil Salvo) lets it deal up to 120 damage scattered in sets of 20 all across the opponent’s Active Spot and Bench. This article deals with a deck focused on getting the most out of Arboliva ex while using similar cards.
Pokemon TCG Best Arboliva Ex Deck Guide Overview
The game plan with an Arboliva ex deck is to use it and other indirect damage dealers like Dusclops and Hawlucha to whittle down the opponent and potentially take out more than one card in a single turn. Near the late game, there are two ways of going about this. Either use Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex to sweep after having lost multiple Prizes, or Night Stretcher to bring as many of them back as possible to repeat the process.

How To Play This Best Arboliva Ex Deck in Pokemon TCG Destined Rivals
Ideal Starting Hand
Getting a hand of Basic Pokemon like Smoliv and Duskull is the best for this deck. Attach any energy to Smoliv and put it in the Active Spot as its the only card that needs to use a move. Mew ex is also a good card to start with as it can take the Active spot early and swap out after using its ability to draw cards. Hawlucha is not ideal early on as its ability works best when your opponent has damaged cards on their side of the Bench.
Best Arboliva Ex Deck in Pokemon TCG: Key Cards

The strategy of this deck is something like this:
- Use Arboliva ex in the Active Spot so that it can use its move, Oil Salvo. Dusknoir and Hawlucha are meant to be used strategically after calculating whether a combination of their abilities and Oil Salvo is enough to KO a card or more. This is because Dusknoir is KO’d after using its ability and Hawlucha becomes Bench fodder later.
- Grand Tree and Rare Candy should be used to evolve these cards faster.
- Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex should be used as a sweeper when the opponent has taken five Prizes.

Best Matchups

Decks that rely on cards with HP under a 100 are very vulnerable to being sniped by this deck. Even a combination of Arboliva ex’s and Dusknoir’s combined damage could lead to a card with 250 HP being KO’d.
Dark-type decks are weak to Arboliva’s second move Aroma Shot but they are rarely going to face that directly.
Counters to Arboliva Ex Deck in Pokemon TCG

Arboliva ex and Dusknoir are Stage 2 cards so setting them up can take a few turns. Faster aggro decks can cause trouble for this deck, as can cards that rely on sniping the Bench. Fire-type decks are a huge threat to Arboliva ex, especially Ethan’s Typhlosion, who is aggressively fast and can rack up an impressive amount of damage early on.

Some things to consider while using this deck
- Jamming Tower is a useful Stadium card which nullifies Pokemon Tools like Bravery Charm or Maximum Belt.
- If you are forced to discard an energy, use Night Stretcher or Super Rod to get them back.
