1. Building a Bond With Companions
You will come across a variety of companions throughout your journey in the Living Lands. While they will occasionally interact with you when you’re out in the world, you can discuss matters with them in detail at your camps. Whenever they have something important to say, you’ll notice an exclamation mark appear on top of their health bar. When this happens, set up camp at any of the sites and speak to that companion to learn more about them or what they think of your specific actions.
Keep in mind that you will also have to undertake quests for your companions at some point. So, speaking to them can impact how you complete those quests and how your relationship is with each of them at the game’s end.
2. Interacting With the Voice While Sleeping
The Envoy (player character) is plagued by a mysterious voice in their head. While The Voice speaks to you at certain points when you are out adventuring, it has much more to say when you are asleep at camp. If you do not spend enough nights at the camp, you could miss out on many of these interesting dialogues with the mysterious being. Although mostly philosophical debates, these discussions with the entity in your dreams can give you better insight into its thought process.
3. Keeping Gear Upgraded at All Times
Camping in Avowed is also the only way you can keep all of your weapons and armor in top shape throughout the game. All gear in the game falls under one of five categories: Common, Fine, Exceptional, Superb, and Legendary. Each of these has three tiers of upgrades. So, you will have to run back and forth several times to upgrade your items. Otherwise, you may come across enemies with one or more skulls over their health bars, which indicate that they are far stronger compared to your currently equipped gear.
4. Adding and Customizing Totems for Powerful Buffs
You can think of totems as powerful boons from the different gods in the world of Avowed. In each area of the game, you’ll have to first collect totem fragments scattered across the region. Then, you’ll need a totem base as well. Next, you can visit your camp and complete this totem and display it on a pedestal there. Each fragment of the totem provides unique buffs to your character or companions, all of which can be highly beneficial in your playthrough.
Only one totem can remain active at a time. So, depending on your preference or need, you may need to change totems multiple times throughout the game.
