While clearing out the roads and other locations in Roadcraft, you’ll often run into exceptionally heavy objects. You won’t be able to move these out of the way with any other vehicle except the crane truck. Operating the crane can be quite tricky and may take you some time to master. However, you’ll need to pick up the basics as soon as you can, since you’ll be using the crane quite a bit in the game. With that in mind, here is our guide explaining how you can control the crane in Roadcraft.

The crane’s movements are much like those of many other vehicles in the game. However, you’ll also need to master the vehicle’s ability to latch onto heavy objects around the environment and then pick those objects up for transport. The game will introduce the basic functionalities of the crane early on during its tutorial section. However, if you’re not too clear on the instructions, follow the steps we’ve mentioned below.

  • Step 1: Move the crane close to the object that you want to pick up.
  • Step 2: Press 1 to slowly attach the crane’s rope to the object.
  • Step 3: If you are trying to place the object down in a particular direction or angle, you’ll need to initiate Attach Mode. Press 5 to attach the object from all its corners.
  • Step 4: Press the left mouse button to control the crane’s boom. Move the mouse left and right or up and down to shift the boom in the same direction as the movement.
  • Step 5: With the right mouse button, you can control the crane’s rope length. Basically, you can decide how high or low a picked item will be using this button.
  • Step 6: Once the object is at the desired location, press 1 again to release the object from the crane’s rope.

If you’re only trying to move the picked-up object around without moving the crane, you can press 7. This will engage Anchor Mode. In this mode, you can move the boom around freely while holding an object. However, the crane itself won’t shift.
