The RTX 4070 Laptop and the RTX 5060 Laptop are 8GB VRAM-powered GPUs, powering mid-to-high-end gaming laptops with both Intel and Ryzen options. The gaming performance between the two is nearly identical, with the 4070 having a slight edge over the 5060. That said, below is a comparison that highlights the differences.

Specs Comparison

Here are the specs of RTX 4070 Mobile and the RTX 5060 Mobile:

Even though the manufacturing node suggests that Blackwell uses 4N and Ada Lovelace uses 5N, the truth is that only Blackwell enterprise models use the actual 4NP node. Both consumer variants of Blackwell and Lovelace use the same 5N or 4N FinFET node. In terms of power efficiency, it’s more or less the same.

Lithography aside, both GPUs feature a 128-bit memory bus and an 8GB VRAM buffer. Even though the 4070 is much faster, it is limited only by the VRAM, followed by the TGP, and then the same L2 cache. For starters, the desktop variant of the 4070 features 36 MB of L2 cache, a 180W+ TDP, and a much higher core count.

Unlike desktop GPUs, laptop GPUs are severely voltage-limited. If you are getting the 4070 version, make sure you buy it with HX-tier CPUs only; only then will you be able to undervolt and extract as much performance as possible within the same power budget of up to 140 W (in the best cases).

Synthetic Performance Comparison

From the synthetic benchmarks, it is clear that both GPUs are very close in performance, and for compute tasks like 3D rendering, you can’t go wrong with either. It’s just that 5060 laptops cost significantly more than 4070 ones.

Gaming Performance Comparison

The data is sourced from FPS Vn’s YouTube channel, where the person tested two laptops with RTX 4070 and RTX 5060 GPUs with near identical specs at 1080p resolution, with very high settings.

Horizon Zero Dawn  93 FPS87 FPS
Spider-Man 285 FPS79 FPS

As mentioned earlier, both GPUs are very closely matched. For gaming, the 8GB VRAM is the only real limitation. GDDR7’s memory bandwidth advantage will only become relevant once you increase the resolution to 1440p. Again, 8GB is all you get. When buying a laptop, consider spending wisely on one with a 4070. It’s a better overall choice, as it’s significantly cheaper and likely to offer a better CPU pairing.

Final Verdict on RTX 4070 Laptop vs RTX 5060 Laptop

At the 4070 mobile GPU price point, laptops usually offer 1440p or even higher-end 1080p displays with 100% DCI-P3 color space. Thanks to the release of the 5060, these 4070 laptops, which were once outrageously overpriced, are now very reasonable. Getting the 4070 mobile option and then using lossless scaling to simulate 3x or 4x framerate, or even adaptive frame generation, is a much better move than paying more for newer options.
