You are given a choice in the Dawntreader Quest. This guide will help you choose whether to help or kill Oracle Sargamis in Avowed.
Oracle Sargamis is an NPC you encounter during the Dawntreader sidequest in Avowed. You can start this quest by talking to Ofrye on the southern side of Paradis. This quest is mainly about either helping the Oracle with his experiments or stopping him entirely. You have to make this choice at the end of the quest. This guide explains each choice and its consequences in Avowed.
Helping Oracle Sargamis in Avowed
Once you have collected the Splinter of Eothas and read the Gjeda’s Journal in the quest, you can now confront Oracle Sargamis. The Oracle now reveals his true plan of trying to bring back Eothas, who was responsible for killing numerous people in an event long ago. Oracle Sargamis then tries to make sense of how killing the expedition team was right to bring back his god. However, you now have to choose to help or kill Oracle Sargamis in Avowed.
If you choose to help him, go and place the relic you found in the statue. Then, go back to the Oracle and pull the lever, which leads to nothing happening. Oracle Sargamis now requests you to sacrifice your life as the machine probably needs more life essence. However, choosing this simply leads you to your death. The Oracle tells you to stand beneath the animancy machine, and you are given a little bit of time to make your choice.
You can step away from the machine, which turns Oracle Sargamis hostile towards you. You can also convince him to leave his work using a special dialogue exclusive to the Court Auger background. Doing this will make him leave after some banter, but you do not gain any advantage doing this, and the Oracle stays alive despite his crimes.

Killing Oracle Sargamis in Avowed
We think killing Oracle Sargamis is the best choice during the Dawntreader mission in Avowed. You gain access to one of the best weapons in the game, and Sargamis pays for his crimes of killing countless people. You can turn hostile against the Oracle the moment you obtain the Splinter of Eothas, or you can choose another way to kill him using his machine.
Continue with the mission to the point where he asks you to sacrifice your soul. However, instead of agreeing with him, turn this suggestion back to him using the dialogue options listed below:
- “The chime of an unknown godlike wouldn’t interest Eothas. It has to be you.”
- “Eothas didn’t keep me alive for 600 years. It has to be you.”
Saying this convinces Sargamis that he must be the one standing underneath the machine. The Oracle’s blind devotion to Eothas leads to his death by his own hands. Once Oracle Sargamis is standing below the animancy machine, follow the quest marker and activate the machine to finish off the Oracle. You can then go back and loot the Last Day of Light from the Oracle’s body. This is one of the strongest unique weapons in Avowed, which can carry you throughout most of the game quite easily.
