Everything you need to know about South of Midnight’s PC port, including the game’s engine, system requirements, and more.
South of Midnight, despite it being a smaller-scale project from Xbox Game Studios, is still a spectacle to behold. Although it isn’t going for a “photorealistic” art style, Compulsion Games’ upcoming title is still a graphical powerhouse. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering the game is built using Unreal Engine 5.
Furthermore, instead of relying on baked lighting, the game uses a hybrid global illumination model. This results in significantly better lighting and reflections. The game also seems to be using heavy post-processing to facilitate its art style. However, as is the case with Unreal Engine 5, the game’s graphical fidelity doesn’t come cheap.
Here’s everything you need to know about South of Midnight, including its PC system requirements, file size, and more.
South of Midnight System Requirements
Much like any other Unreal Engine 5 game, South of Midnight is mostly CPU and VRAM-bound. Furthermore, the game also requires at least 12 GB of system memory. Surprisingly enough, the game’s minimum GPU specification is a GTX 1060, which is quite old.
The minimum specifications also make it clear that the game isn’t completely reliant on hardware ray-tracing for its GI (global illumination). Instead, it seems to employ a similar software RT technique as seen in Silent Hill 2 Remake. As for the recommended GPU, that’s an RTX 2060, which does have hardware RT as well as mesh shader support.
That being said, here are the minimum and recommended system requirements for South of Midnight:
Minimum
- Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
- OS: Windows 10/11
- Processor: AMD Ryzen 3 1300X / Intel i3-8100
- Memory: 12 GB RAM
- Graphics: AMD RX 580 / Nvidia GTX 1060
- DirectX: Version 12
- Storage: 55 GB available space
Recommended
- Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
- OS: Windows 10/11
- Processor: AMD 1600X / Intel i5-7600K
- Memory: 16 GB RAM
- Graphics: AMD RX 6600 / Nvidia RTX 2060 / Intel Arc A580
- DirectX: Version 12
- Storage: 55 GB available space
South of Midnight File Size
According to the game’s official system requirements, South of Midnight requires roughly 55 GB of storage space. This falls perfectly in line with the game’s linear nature. South of Midnight isn’t an open-world game. Instead, it’s a linear, narrative-driven, action-adventure title. Hence the small file size.
Unreal Engine 5 games are usually quite big, with most going well over 100 GB in size. For instance, Black Myth Wukong, another UE5 game, comes with a whopping 130 GB file size on PC and consoles.
