Starfield isn’t just a Skyrim in Space says Matt Booty in the latest interview on GameSpot.
Starfield was originally scheduled to release in November 2022. The game was delayed and now is scheduled to launch in the first half of 2023. However, we slowly get more and more information and leaks about the upcoming Bethesda new exploration RPG game.
This time we have an interview on GameSpot, where Here’s Matt Booty, head of Xbox Game Studios, answered questions about Halo, Game Pass, and Microsoft’s game studio. But most importantly, he gave us a new slice of information about Starfield.
Starfield isn’t just a Skyrim in Space
During the interview, SkillUp’s Ralph Panebianco mentions the players’ positive responses to the Starfield trailer and everything Bethesda shared with us so far. However, he asked Matt Booty “Do you think it’s Skyrim in space? If it’s not Skyrim in space, what do you think really sets it apart? Where are you seeing that really evolves that Bethesda Game Studios model?”
Matt Booty replies that he has had a chance to observe and work with Todd Haward and the Bethesda team. As a result, he is confident to say that with the time and research Todd Howard spends on the game design and what he brings to it, reskinning Skyrim is not the approach they would take.
Firstly he discussed the visual style and called it NASA-punk, inspired by the retro Sci-Fi concept arts of the late ’70s and ’80s. Next, he lists all the things and systems the Sci-Fi genre should have and of course, Starfield has, like ship-building, space combat, and planetary exploration.
“I think there’s gonna be an awful lot of new stuff Bethesda fans and Todd Howard fans have not seen brought to the game”

Additionally, He mentions that the team is working on polishing the game now, and he is fortunate to be able to see all those steps in game development through status reports.
What could really set apart Skyrim from starfield are new dialogue options. Firstly, we heard about the new persuasion system in Starfield from Todd Howard during the Q&A: Constellation Questions. The persuasion system will allow the player to push the conversation with NPC in a direction that favours them. Which may mean multiple outcomes and Starfield replayability.
Starfield’s release date
In the end, SkillUp’s Ralph Panebianco very subtly tries to ask about Starfield’s release date, but Matt Booty politely laughs.
We could see the first Starfield gameplay during Xbox and Bethesda’s summer games showcase earlier this year. Bethesda revealed that the upcoming RPG will have thousands of planets to explore, and offer an open-world experience never seen before in their games. More on Starfield Exploration HERE
