In Tainted Grail The Fall of Avalon, you’re part of an interesting and constantly evolving world. As such, even side quests will have ramifications for the choices you make. Understanding which decisions lead to the best outcomes can help you achieve the best possible ending to missions.
Black Tar Prophecies is a side mission that you unlock while in the Horns of the South region. In this article, we are going to create an extensive Black Tar Prophecies walkthrough for Tainted Grail The Fall of Avalon. Find out how to get the quest and complete it.
How To Start the Quest
During your time in the Horns of the South, you’ll meet an NPC named Jann Heber. He’ll first give you a quest, dubbed The Lenses and Eye of the Sage. In it, you’ll need to perform a ritual at the Ancient Cromlech. After that’s done and you report back to the quest giver, a secondary quest will become available. Speak with Heber once more to start the Black Tar Prophecies quest.
Jann Heber will ask you to find a hermit who can reverse the changes to the Ancient Cromlech, which resulted from your activities in the previous quest. The hermit who can help you is Drest. You can simply follow the quest marker to reach him.

Black Tar Prophecies Walkthrough for Tainted Grail The Fall of Avalon
Once you reach Drest, speak with him and convince him to help you with the ritual that returns the Ancient Cromlech to normal. You can offer him some food to persuade him. Once he’s ready to assist, he’ll instruct you to meet him at the Ancient Cromlech. So, head to the location and speak with Drest again to start the ritual.
As the ritual starts, an unknown lady will appear out of thin air. She’ll interfere with Drest’s attempt, calling him unworthy of cleansing the Great Cromlech. The conversation between them reveals that Drest is Iona’s father, and he abandoned her when she was still a child. As the conversation progresses, you’ll eventually arrive at a juncture where you’ll need to make a choice.
Choice 1: Attack Iona
You could attack Iona, in which case a battle will begin. She can be tricky to defeat, as she summons wolves to fight beside her. However, once you slay her, Drest will resent what he did in the past and her passing. However, he will complete the cleansing ritual.
Choice 2: Let Iona Cleanse the Site
You can also side with Iona and discuss the cleansing ritual with her. If you pick this option, Drest will die by her hands for his past actions. You won’t need to engage in any fight, as Iona will cleanse the Ancient Cromlech.
Note: Drest is key in a few other quests of the game. If you’re choosing the second path, make sure you’ve already completed those quests first. Otherwise, Drest dying might forever lock you out of those missions.
After the ritual is complete and the Ancient Cromlech is back to normal again, report back to Jann Heber. After recounting what took place at the site, the quest will come to an end. You will receive 1000 XP for completing it, but no other reward.
