In Tales of the Shire, you start the game by moving to the peaceful village of Bywater. Your character soon begins forming meaningful relationships with all of their neighbors in the village. This happens as you invite them over for shared meals or perform certain favors for them. While doing all of that, you also work toward improving Bywater as a whole.

After you have progressed far enough, you will eventually be tasked with establishing several clubs in the village. There are four clubs you can establish: Fishing, Foraging, Cooking, and Gardening.

After establishing these clubs, you’ll also perform certain tasks for them. As you complete more tasks, you’ll be able to level up each of the clubs, which will unlock various rewards for you. Although you’ll want to level up all of the clubs eventually, some of them offer better rewards than others. That’s why we recommend leveling up the Foraging and Fishing clubs first. In the following guide, we’ll explain why you should level up these clubs in Tales of the Shire before the others.

Which Clubs in Tales of the Shire To Level Up First?

As mentioned before, the Fishing and Foraging clubs give you the best rewards for leveling up. You should focus on these first and leave the Gardening and Cooking clubs for later. Now, let’s understand why we recommend these two clubs.

Fishing Club

Every time you level up the Fishing Club, Old Noakes will reward you with a new fishing rod. Each progressive rod you acquire is better than the last. The better rods will help you catch fish more easily and obtain rare fish more frequently. Most importantly, you’ll also be able to catch a few Delicious Fish, which you can use to cook different dishes.

As you become more proficient at fishing, you can stock up your pantry and sell off your excess catches for a large amount of money. It’s a great way to make money in the game and use that money to buy the necessary ingredients for your cooking pursuits.

The Foraging Club is another important club to level up quickly. Its first level-up reward is the Lantern, which allows you to see better at night. However, that isn’t the valuable reward we are referring to. After the first level, every time you level up the Foraging Club, it will unlock a few additional slots in your backpack.

Expanding your backpack space is crucial before you proceed to the later parts of the game. The more space you have, the more items you can forage at once before needing to head back home. Ironically, the extra backpack space will also help you complete the associated Foraging Club tasks more easily.
