Everything About Armor in Black Black Myth Wukong

Black Myth: Wukong features a wealth of armor options to choose from, with each outfit offering its own distinct perks and bonuses. From increasing the Critical Hit Damage to offering Passive Healing, to even increasing Attack Power under certain conditions, armor sets come with incredibly varied bonuses that help define your build in Black Myth: Wukong. While the armor sets offer set bonuses, there are individual perks for each piece, which you can mix and match to create a hybrid build. Furthermore, almost every single armor in the game can be upgraded to the Mythical tier, making them viable for end-game and New Game+.

Much like the Staff upgrades, new armor sets are doled out fairly regularly in Black Myth: Wukong. However, you can only upgrade the armor sets after reaching the second half of Chapter 3 (The New West) and unlocking the Ruyi Scroll. Until then, you will have to rely on using the new armor sets that usually unlock after defeating a main story boss, to boost your Defense. Once you reach the Ruyi Scroll, you can freely upgrade your armor pieces to create your own specialized build.

While there are plenty of options to choose from when it comes to build crafting and armor, not all of them are equally as effective as the other. Some armor sets are objectively better than the rest, offering some really powerful perks and bonuses. Furthermore, some armor sets offer certain perks like faster Qi build-up or massively increased Defense, that make them almost essential for the end-game. Here are the 5 best armor sets in Black Myth: Wukong that you don’t want to miss out on.

Best Armor Sets in Black Myth: Wukong

The best armor sets in Black Myth: Wukong are the Pilgrim’s set, Golden set, Monkey King (Wukong’s) set, Bull King set, and the Yaksha set. These armor sets not only provide superior defensive attributes but also offer perks that are incredibly useful during combat. For instance, the Pilgrim’s Set offers the unique perk of increasing the Destined One’s Attack Power upon sprinting, which can stack up to 10 times, or the Golden set offers the special perk of restoring Qi upon dealing Critical Hit Damage. These perks not only offer significant attribute bonuses but also change the way you approach combat in Black Myth Wukong.

Additionally, armor sets like the Sun Wukong (Monkey King) set synergizes with the Jingubang, which is among one of the most powerful weapons in Black Myth: Wukong. Not only does it increase the effectiveness of the Jingubang, but it also grants the Heaven’s Equal bonuses, which significantly increase the Critical Hit Chance and Cooldown of Spells. Lastly, the Yaksha and Bull King sets both offer superior defense and some unique perks that allow you to create an entire buildaround, especially in New Game+. That said, here are the 5 best armor sets in Black Myth Wukong:

  1. Pilgrim’s set
  2. Golden set
  3. Monkey King’s set
  4. Bull King’s set
  5. Yaksha set

5) Yaksha set

The Yaksha set (Image via GameScience)
  • Armor set: Yaksha set
  • Default Rarity: Legendary
  • Primary perk(s):
    • Buffs Pillar Stance skills
    • Increases Damage but at the cost of reduced Defense
  • Unique effect(s): Increases Attack Power when at low HP
  • How to get: Available to craft at the start of Chapter 6

The Yaksha set is arguably the best option for players who want pure DPS above everything. Although the armor set boosts base Attack Power, it does so at the cost of significantly reduced Defense, which can be a major trade-off, especially in the end-game. However, if you pair it up with defense-boosting Curios like the Gold Spikeplate, you can make the Yaksha set work for end-game encounters. The best use case for the Yaksha set is in New Game+, where you can pair it up with Curios like Gold Button and Beast Buddha, to increase your base DPS massively. Do note that the Yaksha set also increases damage taken, not just damage dealt.

4) Bull King’s set

  • Armor set: Bull King’s set
  • Default Rarity: Mythical
  • Primary perk(s):
    • Increases Defense upon taking damage
    • Increases Tenacity but disables Perfect Dodge
  • Unique effect(s): Grants Focus on taking damage
  • How to get: Available to craft in Chapter 5, after defeating the Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast

The Bull King’s set is arguably the best option for newcomers, who just want the “tankiest” armor to power through most encounters. Not only does the Bull King’s set boost the Destined One’s defenses massively, but it also restores Focus upon taking hits, and grants hyperarmor. As such, most of your light attack combos won’t be interrupted by regular hits. The only issue with the Bull King’s set that puts it behind the Monkey King’s or Pilgrim’s set is that it’s an exclusively New Game+ armor set. While you can craft half of it on your first playthrough (if you skip crafting the Bishui Staff), to get the full set, you will have to go into New Game+.

3) Monkey King’s set

  • Armor set: Monkey King’s set
  • Default Rarity: Mythical
  • Primary perk(s):
    • Casting Spells increases Critical Hit Chance
    • Dealing Critical Hits reduces the cooldown of Spells
  • Unique effect(s): None
  • How to get: Automatic unlock in Chapter 6

The Monkey King’s set is an excellent choice for not only the end-game encounters but also New Game+. In fact, if you don’t want to spend time and resources on armor upgrades in New Game+, you can basically get past almost the entirety of the game with the Monkey King’s set, without much hassle. The best aspect of the Monkey King’s set is the Critical Hit Damage boost, which alongside Curios like the Jade Moon Rabbit, will have you dealing primarily critical attacks, even with your regular light attack combos. Furthermore, if you pair the armor set with the Jingubang, you get access to the secondary perk that reduces the cooldown of Spells upon landing critical hits.

The only major downside of the Monkey King’s set is its reliance on the Jingubang, which somewhat limits its use if you want to switch to a different (and more powerful) weapon, like the Tri-Point Double-Edged Spear or the Stormflash Loong Staff.

2) Golden set

  • Armor set: Golden set
  • Default Rarity: Legendary
  • Primary perk(s):
    • Using Spirit skill or Vessel increases attack power
    • Landing Critical Hits restores Qi
  • Unique effect(s): Landing hits using Spirits skills restore Focus
  • How to get: Available to craft in Chapter 4

The Golden set is not only the best mid to late-game armor set in Black Myth Wukong but also one of the best armor sets for New Game+, simply due to its primary perk(s). The armor set revolves primarily around Spirit and Vessel abilities, i.e., Qi. While it doesn’t offer the best in terms of defense or DPS, it does offer the unique perk of restoring Qi upon landing Critical Hits. This means, as long as you’re dealing Critical Hits, which is quite easy to do with weapons like Jingubang and the Thrust Stance, you will always have access to your Spirit and Vessel abilities. You can further increase the effectiveness of the armor set’s erks by upgrading it to the Mythical rarity.

1) Pilgrim’s set

The Pilgrim’s set (Image via GameScience)
  • Armor set: Pilgrim’s set
  • Default Rarity: Uncommon
  • Primary perk(s):
    • Increases Sprint Speed
    • Increases Attack Power while Sprinting, for a short duration
  • Unique effect(s): Allows using Gourd while Sprinting
  • How to get: Available to craft in Chapter 1

The Pilgrim’s set is one of the first armor sets you get in Black Myth Wukong, and ironically, it’s perhaps the best in the entire game. Not only does it offer superior base defensive stats compared to other Legendary and Mythical armor sets, but it also comes with an incredibly powerful primary perk. The Pilgrim’s set increases attack power upon sprinting, which you can stack up to 10 times, drastically increasing the damage you deal with a single hit. Furthermore, upon upgrading the armor to Mythical rarity, it gains a special perk that restores Focus upon sprinting, which combined with the increased attack power allows you to deal massive amounts of damage.

In Conclusion

Although the armor sets you get at the end of Black Myth: Wukogn does offer some really powerful perks, they aren’t as effective as the very first armor set you get in the game – the Pilgrim’s Set. If you don’t want to waste too much time and resources upgrading earlier armor sets, you can stick with either the Yaksha or the Monkey King’s Set. However, if you want the best option either for the end-game encounters or New Game+, you can’t go wrong with upgrading some of the earlier armor sets, i.e., Pilgrim’s and Golden Set.
