Elder Scrolls Online is adding the previously premium-only Scribing feature in the base game for free. Here is everything to know.

It seems the Elder Scrolls franchise is not happy with just releasing Oblivion Remastered this week. The Elder Scrolls Online is also set to receive a significant update. Notably, the new Update 46 is already live on the Public Test Servers and will be rolled out for public use soon.
One of the most significant features of the new update is the addition of the Scribing system to the base game. Here is everything to know.

How Will Scribing Be Made Free in The Elder Scrolls Online?

You can obtain the Scribing feature from Monday (April 28, 2025) in the Crown Store. You can also claim the feature from the Golden Pursuit rewards. Either alternative would be effective.
You should note that there will be a short period from June to July when you will not be able to purchase or access this system. As per the update:
“There will be a short window from June to July with the launch of Update 46 and the Gold Road zone moving to ESO Plus and the Crown Store where players who do not currently own Scribing will not be able to purchase/gain access to it.”
Why Is Scribing Being Made Free Important for The Elder Scrolls Online
The Scribing system lets players create their own custom skills. You can use these custom skills to cover up certain weaknesses your characters might have. Introducing this feature to players for free will definitely garner positive reviews for developer ZeniMax.
Update 46 is also bringing Subclasses to the game alongside Scribing (both for free), so this is a good time to hop into The Elder Scrolls Online.
