What is the story in Tears of the Kingdom?
With most Legend of Zelda games, Nintendo is often tight-lipped about story elements. Consequently, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been no exception.
In a rare change from previous titles, Tears of the Kingdom will also serve as a direct continuation of the Breath of the Wild story. Significantly, this is not been something which has happened often in the series. It picks up several years after the events of the previous game, with Link and Zelda still working to rebuild Hyrule. However, their efforts are threatened by a new malevolent force which seeks to destroy the kingdom.
As with all previous Legend of Zelda titles the character of Link will serve as the main protagonist of Tears of the Kingdom. He is joined by Princess Zelda, who will surely play a crucial role in the story. Additionally, beloved characters Riju, Sidon, and Tulin will be returning to lend their assistance. Soon the land of Hyrule will band together to oppose a malevolent force seeking to destroy the world.
While the story of Tears of the Kingdom is still largely unknown Nintendo has released a few details about it. In one trailer, we see Link and Zelda exploring an ancient ruin. There is a corpse that is being held in suspended animation by a ghostly hand. The corpse then stirs, and the trailer cuts to a view of Hyrule Castle rising into the air.
This suggests that the new threat in Tears of the Kingdom is somehow connected to the ancient past of Hyrule. It is also possible that this threat is related to the Calamity Ganon that Link defeated in Breath of the Wild.
Only time will tell what the full story of Tears of the Kingdom is. However, from what we have seen so far, it is shaping up to be a major sequel to Breath of the Wild.
