Everything you need to know about the official PC system requirements for The Outer Worlds 2, including the recommended GPU, and more.

Obsidian Entertainment’s upcoming action RPG, The Outer Worlds 2, is easily the most graphically impressive game in their catalog. Similarly to the studio’s previously released title, Avowed, the sequel to The Outer Worlds is built using Unreal Engine 5. And as such, the game makes full use of the current-generation console and PC hardware to deliver a jaw-dropping graphical presentation.
Despite the obvious graphical upgrades, the sequel still retains the same art style as the original The Outer Worlds, albeit with some changes. The Outer Worlds 2 seems to employ a more advanced lighting model, owing to its use of Unreal Engine 5. Furthermore, the game also features denser cityscapes as well as more detailed NPCs.
However, all those upgrades come at the cost of significantly higher PC system specifications, at least when compared to the original title. Here’s a look at the official PC system requirements for The Outer Worlds 2.
The Outer Worlds 2 PC System Requirements

Here are the official system requirements for The Outer Worlds 2:
Minimum
- Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
- OS: Windows 10/11 with updates
- Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 / Intel i5-8400
- Memory: 16 GB RAM
- Graphics: AMD RX 5700 / Nvidia GTX 1070 / Intel Arc A580
- DirectX: Version 12
- Storage: 110 GB available space
- Additional Notes: SSD required. Performance scales with higher-end systems.
Unsurprisingly, since both games are made using Unreal Engine 5, The Outer Worlds 2 shares almost identical system specifications to Avowed. The only key difference is the game’s storage requirement. This is both a good and a bad sign for the sequel. Avowed was a relatively optimized experience on PC, with few bugs and frame rate issues at launch.
However, at the same time, due to its use of UE5, there were some shader-related stuttering issues in Avowed. This can also be the case for The Outer Worlds 2, especially given the scale of its open world. However, it’s quite likely Obsidian has learnt a lot about optimizing UE5 for the target platforms since their time with Avowed.
As such, The Outer Worlds 2 is likely going to have fewer of those shader-related issues that plagued Avowed at launch. Furthermore, Obsidian has yet to reveal the recommended specifications for the game. Once those specifications are revealed, we will get a clearer idea of the game’s PC optimization.
The Outer Worlds 2 File Size

According to the official PC system requirements, The Outer Worlds 2 requires roughly 110 GB of storage space. Furthermore, Obsidian Entertainment highly recommends installing the game on an SSD. This is surprising considering the game is built using UE5, and most games on that engine tend to go well past 100 GBs. For instance, Black Myth Wukong, another UE5 title, comes with a file size of 130 GB on PC.
