Twitch streamer Nick “Nmplol” Polom posted an artificial intelligence (AI) image of himself and his girlfriend, Katherine “ItsKatchii,” on March 27, 2025. The image portrayed the couple in an art style resembling Studio Ghibli’s animation style, and it upset many internet users. They called Nmplol out for promoting AI art and disrespecting Studio Ghibli’s work.

AI company OpenAI recently integrated a new image generation feature into its popular tool, ChatGPT, to help users create images using various artistic styles. Internet users are mimicking the work of Studio Ghibli’s founder, Hayao Miyazaki, and it has led to heated discussions online. Internet users are unhappy with people who are using AI tools to replicate the iconic Ghibli art style.

Nmplol called out internet users for being upset about the image. The streamer said he did not care what others had to say about it. Despite claiming he did not read any of the replies and that the controversy didn’t affect him, Nmplol responded to the original tweet multiple times.

Why Did Nmplol Face Backlash Over His Tweet?

Nmplol seemingly used ChatGPT’s new image generation features to recreate Studio Ghibli-style art. He posted an image featuring cartoon versions of himself and ItsKatchii, saying:

“I am not sure what studio ghibli is but I look better this way.”

Internet users criticized Nmplol for using AI art and allegedly disrespecting Hayao Miyazaki’s work. The streamer responded to the tweets, saying:

“Yall crying in the comments I do not care. This tweet is dog sh*t the ai art is dog sh*t but y’all crying is worse holy f*ck shut up.”

A few hours later, he responded to the thread, saying:

“9 hours later didn’t read not a one of the 125 replies just letting yall know”

Internet Users Call Out Nmplol’s AI Art Post

Nmplol’s tweet got over 267,000 views and over 130 comments. Here are some of the top replies to his tweet:

“This ain’t it Nick. AI art is theft. You have community members who can draw a hundred times better stuff,” said @Sim_User.

“Seeing people keep posting AI slop that takes from the artist who called it inhuman and grotesque makes me want to drop kick everyone of them into the sun,” commented @drefranks4.

“Sh*tty AI slop from a sh*tty content creator, what else is new,” @operationgamboa wrote.

While many internet users seemed upset at the streamer for using AI, others said his fans were being overly negative:

“Why do people get so mad at AI? It’s like if I were to get mad at someone using a super fast robot for my job instead of me like I need to go find another job or get better,” said @AdrianFerris2.

“brO tHiS aI pLeAsE sToP iT pAY mE tO mAkE sOmeThiNg PlEaSe!!! People crying over a picture thats not meant to be serious,” wrote @Myekyl.

AI is a controversial topic on X, and many fans don’t like it when content creators showcase AI art. Nmp seemingly ignored the comments and said he will not interact with or respond to people criticizing him.
