The most common fix that you should try whenever these problems occur is to restart the game, Steam, as well as your PC. However, if the issue still persists, you can try the steps mentioned below.

1) Enable/ Disable Steam Input

Steam Input is one of the most essential features provided by Steam. Since Microsoft officially only supports Xbox controllers, people faced a lot of trouble using their DualSense controllers to play games on Steam. However, Steam Input works as a sort of emulator, which allows you to connect your PS controllers as Steam starts reading them as an Xbox controller instead.

If you are using a PS controller and don’t have this feature turned on, this can lead to controller connectivity issues. On the other hand, if you are using an Xbox controller and still have this feature turned on, it can lead to certain glitches and incompatibility issues, as you don’t need this feature anyway. To fix this, follow these steps:

  • Launch the Steam application on your PC.
  • Click on Steam on the top left side of the app’s UI.
  • Go to the Controller settings.
  • Scroll down and locate the Steam Input option.
  • Enable Steam Input by checking the box beside the option.

Turn it off, if it was already turned on. (for Xbox controller users)

2) Update Your Controller

One thing PC gamers often tend to skip or forget is updating their controllers. This can lead to incompatibility issues. Fortunately, this can be simply fixed. If you are using an Xbox controller, update its drivers using the Xbox Accessories App. DualSense controller users can do the same via the PlayStation DualSense Firmware Updater app.
