Jeffree Star highlighted past controversies involving James Charles. Allegedly, he “tricked” a 19-year-old waiter into his hotel room.
Popular TikToker, media personality, and makeup artist James Charles has found himself in the headlines after fellow influencer Jeffree Star highlighted some past instances of Charles’ controversial actions. It’s worth noting that Star and Charles were once good friends before a fallout. Since then, Star has made numerous accusations against the creator.
Jeffree Star was recently invited to Tana Mongeau’s Cancelled with Tana Mongeau & Brooke Schofield podcast, where he spoke at length about the supposed problematic behavior exhibited by James Charles. One particular controversy that Star spoke about occurred during Charles’ visit to Tati Westbrook’s birthday party.
According to Star, Charles “tricked” a 19-year-old waiter into his hotel room, demanding that the waiter “make out” with him. Star recounted:
“There was this 19-year-old waiter who he tricked into his room, and the guy said he wanted to leave and James was like, ‘I paid for this. You have to hook up with me, I bought the room.’ But everyone makes it about the memes. But as someone who was there, and I’m all about shock value, it was disgusting to witness.”
Before this, Jeffree Star also spoke about how money had negatively impacted Charles’ life. He said:
“It was the height of James’ new fame, new money, going batsh*t crazy and not knowing how to handle it all and it turned him into a monster or maybe he already was that, and money amplified it. He thought, ‘I have money, you’re gonna sleep with me.’ It was very disgusting.”

What Are the Past Allegations Against James Charles?
February 2021 was a tumultuous time for James Charles. The TikTok influencer was accused by a then-16-year-old of sending inappropriate messages. Initially, Charles denied the allegations, stating that he was simply flirting and believed the individual was of legal age.
However, in April 2021, he posted a now-deleted video on his YouTube channel in which he admitted to sending lewd messages to at least two individuals under the age of consent. He said:
“I fully understand my actions, and how they are wrong. There’s no excuse for them and I don’t plan on making any in this video either.”
Aside from the grooming allegations, Charles also faced backlash for his behavior during the COVID-19 lockdown in July 2020. The TikToker had uploaded a video showing him attending a party at the infamous Hype House with other creators.
The criticism sparked a response from Charles, who admitted he should not have attended parties during the pandemic. However, he stated that he had tested himself before attending, with negative results.
