Asmongold’s X account was allegedly hacked and it promoted a new $ASMONGOLD currency on the Solana blockchain.
Twitch streamer Zack “Asmongold” Hoyt’s X account was allegedly hacked on January 27, 2025. The user who allegedly took over announced a new cryptocurrency named “$ASMONGOLD and asked his audience to invest.
Multiple One True King (OTK) content group members tweeted that Asmongold’s account was hacked and he was not responsible for the post. The promotional post is no longer visible on Hoyt’s account. However, many X users are accusing Hoyt of launching a “pump and dump” scheme.
Political commentator Hasan “HasanAbi” Piker defended Asmongold amidst the ongoing controversy. He said that Asmon would never sell a “meme coin” to his audience. The original promotional post is now deleted from X, but Asmon has yet addressed the issue on the platform.
Asmongold’s $ASMONGOLD Controversy Explained
Asmongold’s X account posted an artificial intelligence (AI) image of him wearing a cowboy hat. It featured the OTK logo and multiple fake sponsorship icons to promote the cryptocurrency. The now-deleted tweet read:
“Guys I am excited to announce my very own official token. The best is yet to come, join us and let the memes begin.”
The tweet had a contract address where players could purchase cryptocurrency. The streamer quickly deleted the tweet but he did not respond to the controversy on Twitter. Internet users are debating whether Asmon really posted the $ASMONGOLD promotional image. Some believe he tried to scam his audience, while others argue that hackers took over his account.
HasanAbi Defends Asmon Amidst Cryptocurrency Drama
Hasan is visiting Japan with OTK member Will Neff and other content creators. When Hasan heard that Asmongold, OTK’s CEO, had launched a cryptocurrency, he refused to believe it. Hasan said:
“No shot. He’s hacked. 100%. That is a new…no, no, no no, no. That is a new low.”
The streamer looked at Hoyt’s account and said that Asmon would never sell a scam cryptocurrency. He added:
“This is what the American economy looks like right now. China’s over here po*ping on us. China’s over here fa*ting on us making products at a fraction of the price…that is infinitely more efficient. It disrupts the American market. And in the United States of America, our most brilliant innovators are busy hacking Twitter accounts and YouTube pages to market sh*tty crypto coins. Great stuff overall. We are so cooked folks”
He then urged his audience to avoid jumping to conclusions, emphasizing the importance of critical thinking. Hasan reminded them that if “something sounds too good” and aligns perfectly with their worldview, they should pause and apply “a little bit of critical thinking.” However, despite his advice, many in his chat speculated that OTK might have staged the scandal to promote their cryptocurrency.
