H3 Podcast’s Ethan Klein and his wife Hila Klein are facing allegations of workplace abuse from a former employee.
YouTubers Ethan Klein and Hila Klein from H3H3 Productions are facing legal charges from a former employee. According to public court documents filed in the State of California, the couple allegedly fired a former employee who needed surgery.
The former employee worked as a housekeeper in the Klein household. Their human resource (HR) manager allegedly declined the housekeeper’s request for a leave to undergo hernia surgery. It is also reported that the employers allegedly paid below minimum wage, which is illegal in all 50 states in the USA.
Shortly after her leave request, the HR manager allegedly discharged the housekeeper from her duties, stating that the Klein family was “going in a different direction”.
What Are the Allegations Against Ethan Klein?
The primary allegation by Ethan Klein’s housekeeper is that she was fired without a valid reason. Klein’s HR manager allegedly told her that the family was “moving in a different direction” and didn’t give a direct answer.

Another allegation in the lawsuit states that the Klein family underpaid the housekeeper. The minimum wage in California is $16.50 per hour and paying below that is illegal. According to page 19 of the lawsuit, the housekeeper worked more than her scheduled hours and was not paid.
Further details from the court documents show that the plaintiff worked at the Klein household from 2020 to 2024. She was alleged, “well regarded during her time with them and fulfilled her job duties without issue”. The housekeeper is seeking damages for her sudden discharge and the wage disparities in a California court.

This isn’t the first time Ethan Klein or his organization has faced a lawsuit. In August 2017, a judge ruled in Klein’s favor in a heavily documented copyright case. Ethan and his wife, Hila, were the primary defendants in the lawsuit. They reacted to YouTuber Matt Hoss’ content, which prompted legal action and sparked controversies on YouTube.
YouTuber Philip DeFranco raised more than $170,000 for the Klein couple to fight the lawsuit. A New York court ruled in Klein’s favor, marking a historic win for content creators. Klein’s lawsuit helped define fair use rights on YouTube and serves as a reference in U.S. cases involving reaction videos.
In 2013, a content agency reportedly stole $620,000 from Ethan Klein by exploiting a contract. The organization outsourced transactions, making it difficult for Klein to track his YouTube revenue. After investigations, a United States court declared BBTV guilty and awarded punitive damages to Ethan and Hilda Klein.
