The Icy Crystal, Icy Metal, and Icy Helve are items found in the Underdark in Baldur’s Gate 3. The Underdark is an optional area that players discover in Act 1 of the game. It is a tongue-in-cheek easter egg for Dungeons & Dragons fans. Each of these items carries a description that hints towards a greater reward.
In this guide, we shall tell you how to find the Icy Crystal, Icy Metal, and Icy Helve so you can use them to your advantage.
Where to find the Icy Crystal, Icy Metal, and Icy Helve?
The Icy Crystal, Metal, and Helve are in the possession of Drows scattered across the area. Follow the steps below to find them:
Crystal
- You will find the Crystal near the Underdark Sussur Tree on the west side of the realm.
- Close to the tree, you’ll find Drow Filro, who will attack you on sight with his pet Hook Horrors. Kill Filro and Hook Horrors.
- Loot Filro’s body to retrieve the Crystal.
Helve
- You can find the Helve near the Underdark Selunite Outpost. Head to the outpost and exit on the west end through a dilapidated section of the building.
- Here, you will find enemies patrolling the area. One of them is Drow Dhourn, a petrified victim of the Spectator. Clear the area and retrieve the Icy Helve from Dhourn.
- If you manage to avoid killing Dhourn, pickpocket him to retrieve the item. Do so without fail as he despawns.
Metal
- You can find the Icy Metal in the Underdark Myconid Colony. But first, you must defeat the Duergar Intruders in the area.
- After defeating them, talk to the Sovereign, who will give you access to their vault.
- You can retrieve the Icy Metal from a Drow’s body inside the vault.
What To Do With the Icy items?
Once you have retrieved the Icy Crystal, Icy Metal and Icy Helve, go to your inventory and read the item descriptions. You will be able to combine these items to obtain the Mourning Frost, a Very Rare weapon. It is versatile and deals 7-17 base damage. The Mourning Frost also increases Cold damage by +1 while increasing the odds of afflicting Chill on enemies. It is thus the ideal weapon for Cold Damage spell users.
