YouTuber and Twitch streamer Kayla “Sommerset” Coy was competing in the Fortnite Champion Series Divisionals on January 25, 2025. During her livestream, she received an in-game message from Epic Games saying that her account was disabled from matchmaking for “teaming” with other players.

Teaming refers to colluding with other competitors to beat other players in a match. It goes against the Terms of Service of most competitive games and is a bannable offense. The streamer pleaded innocent and told her fans that she was not teaming up with anyone.

The streamer is waiting for a response from Epic Games amidst the 28-day ban. Sommerset has 1.9 million followers on Twitch and over 600,000 subscribers on YouTube. She is one of the largest female Fortnite content creators on both platforms.

Sommerset Addresses Ban and Denies “Teaming” Accusations

When Sommerset saw the ban message in-game, she expressed her disappointment at Epic Games. The streamer told her fans that she wasn’t cheating or teaming up with anyone. She claimed that Epic Games incorrectly banned her. The streamer wrote:

“Currently banned from competitive play… I’m really upset.  I’ve streamed everything I’ve played on Fortnite, and there has never been any indication of hacking or cheating in either Div 1 or Div 2 cups. This is both my job and my passion. I would never put myself in a position to jeopardize that or intentionally cheat my way through. Epic is currently looking into it, and I’m praying things work out. I was so excited to play FNCS, and this came out of nowhere. I’m disappointed, but I trust that EpicGames will do the right thing.”

Epic Games is yet to respond to Sommerset and potentially restore her account. The streamer claimed that anyone could go watch her old broadcasts as proof of her supposed innocence. Fortnite developers mistakenly banned Sommerset for teaming in 2023 but quickly restored her account after realizing the error. Her current ban will end on February 23, 2025, unless the developers intervene and find her innocent.

Epic Games Previously Banned the Streamer For “Teaming” in 2023

Fortnite previously banned Sommerset just hours before the start of the Fortnite Champion Series in 2023. She accused Epic Games of unfairly banning her and claimed she was not cheating or doing anything that would break the game’s Terms of Service.

Her ban message said that the time:

“Due to actions on your account, you have been banned from competitive play for teaming up with a competitor. Please remember to play fair in Fortnite.”

Fortnite had banned her for two weeks in the previous incident. Epic Games warned her to play fair and that future infringement could lead to “severe punishments”. After issuing a public statement and claiming innocence, Epic Games looked into the matter and unbanned her account.
