Discover everything you need to know about the Harpers Faction in Baldur’s Gate 3 and how this covert organization works.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a highly acclaimed CRPG from the renowned developer Larian Studios. Released in the summer of 2023 on all major platforms, it features an engaging storyline, memorable companions, and tactical turn-based combat. You will come across several organizations and factions during your adventure within the Forgotten Realms. Every faction and organization works under a certain motive and it is all on you whether you join up with the faction or not.
Some of the most popular factions in Baldur’s Gate 3 include Cult of the Absolute, The Flaming Fist, Tieflings, Clan Ironhand, etc. However, the most secretive and probably the best faction is the Harpers. In a world full of corruption, Harpers is the only faction that fights for the removal of tyranny. It is easy to misjudge the goal of the Harpers when you first interact with them. In this guide, we will explain everything you need to know about the Harpers Faction in Baldur’s Gate 3 and how you can join them.
Who are Harpers in BG3?
The Harpers are among the numerous factions and organizations working within the Forgotten Realms. Out of all the factions, the Harpers is the most secretive faction that works in the shadows for the betterment of Faerun. The Harpers faction has been working mysteriously for over a thousand years in the Forgotten Realms, trying to make something good of Faerun.
All of the members of the Harpers faction come from different backgrounds, but they all have one goal, maintain peace. They share the desire to protect the weak from the tyrants, preserve knowledge, and do anything necessary covertly for the good deed. Due to their secrecy and spies scattered all over the Forgotten Realms, it is difficult to judge who is a member of the Harpers.
As there are several organizations rooting for power in Faerun, the Harpers have a lot of enemies. One of the main enemies of the Harpers is the Zhentarim, a mercenary group known for its wealth and using Dark Magic. The Zhentarim faction has also been around for over 200 years, and the Harpers are continuously trying to keep the magical artifacts away from them.
Moreover, due to a long time of Harpers being secretly working, they have made outposts all over the Forgotten Realms. They all work in small groups and do not have any specific leader who gives them a chain of command. All the members of Harpers are true to their motive and that is why it is hard to identify the spies.
What is the role of Harpers in BG3?
The role of the Harpers in Baldur’s Gate 3 is the same as in the D&D Forgotten Realms campaign. This secretive faction works to preserve good and balance in Faerun. Their motive is to remove the evildoers and corruption from Faerun for common folks. It is one of the most beloved factions in the D&D and even in Baldur’s Gate 3 due to its mysterious lore and workstyle.
Speaking of workstyle, unlike other numerous factions that can be recognized instantly, it is almost impossible to judge a character whether they are a member of the Harpers or not. Because most of the Harpers dress themselves as the common folk to learn about any cruelty or threat in a place. After learning about the threat, the group within that place crafts a covert plan to take care of the threat.
However, some of the characters can be recognized due to the Harp-Shaped pins they are wearing. Moreover, the color scheme of their clothes can also give away their associated faction. Most of the Harpers members wear blue and brown color clothes.
“Some call the Harpers heroes. Others, petty meddlers who cannot help but stick their nose into every conflict they stumble across. The truth is in there somewhere.” – Jaheira.
