Investigating Kagha is a side quest in Baldur’s Gate 3 in the Emerald Grove, where you uncover a potential plot involving the Kagha. There are significant choices with consequences that can reverberate through the rest of the game. Find clues about Kagha in Kagha’s chest and in a wooden crevice in the swamp in Putrid Bog. You will be awarded with the exclusive rewards. This quest is essential for completing the Steal the Sacred Idol quest in BG3. In this guide, we’ll discuss all the necessary steps required to complete the Investigate Kagha quest along with some useful tactics to convince Kagha effectively in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Investigate Kagha Quest Overview in Baldur’s Gate 3

Investigate Kagha is a sub-quest of Emerald Grove’s main quest, Save the Refugees. It can be initiated by reading The Rite of Thorns, found in the Emerald Grove, or finding another clue about Kagha’s scheme. This quest involves uncovering the true motivations of her. She is preparing to perform the Rite of Thorns, a ritual to seal the grove and expel the tiefling refugees.

The key objectives for this quest are to confront her, search for evidence, and Decide her Fate. Bring a party member like Shadowheart or Astarion to succeed in Persuasion or Intimidation checks. Sneak into Kagha’s chambers to gather evidence without confrontation if dialogue isn’t your strength. Your party members will react to your decisions, so consider their alignments. Ensure your party is ready for a tough fight if the confrontation escalates. This side quest is crucial for the Emerald Grove storyline and can influence the fate of both the druids and tieflings.

How to complete Investigate Kagha in BG3

Investigate Kagha is a multi-staged quest that offers distinct results. Upon receiving this quest, the party is implored to search the Emerald Grove to investigate Kagha.

Find Clues

Go to the Emerald Grove in Act 1 and find Druid Kagha inside the Sacred Pool. This will intersect with your first meeting with Arabella, whose fate you will also get the chance to influence. When the scene is over and you are free to explore the Druid inner sanctum, make your way into the Servant’s Quarters.

In the back of the room, use the ledges to climb up into a space behind the bookcases. There you will find Kagha’s chest, which will be locked. Crouch into a sneak and wait until no one is watching before you use a character with high Sleight of Hand to break it open. Inside, you will find a Half-Torn note. Reading it will start the quest to investigate Kagha. The party can destroy the chest if they cannot pass the Skill Check.

Follow the Clue

To follow the clue in the note, head down into the Sunlit Wetlands in the southwest of the Act 1 Map. If you read the note, you will learn that Kagha corresponds with Olodan, who will meet with Kagha at the swamp. You can find the swamp in the Putrid Bog at X: 97 Y: 224. 2 wood woads and 4 ancient mud mephitis guard the Swamp. Head over to the docks on the east side and jump from rock to rock until you reach the small island offshore. First, you must face several Wood Woads and Ancient Mud Mephits. Wood woads regenerate 10 Hit Points per turn. They are weak against the fire damage which cuts off their regeneration.

The ancient mud will endlessly summon young mud Mephits until you kill them all. Difficult Terrain is created by the mud and tangling weeds. You need to acquire Surprise with invisibility to get enough time to kill the enemies before they even respond. Once you defeat the enemies, go around the west side of the large tree trunk and find a crevice. Find the letter to Kagha to reveal the truth about her and the Shadow Druids. The Shadow Druids take over the Emerald Grove and install herself as First Druid.

Finally, she returns to the Emerald Grove and confronts Kagha. During the dialogue, you will have an opportunity to persuade her to change sides. However, if you want Broodmother’s Revenge, you must ignore that and kill Kagha during the fight.

Different Ways to Convince Kagha

The party must convince Kagha to join their side by succeeding on another DC 10 Persuasion or Religion check. The party will have an extra option to succeed on a DC 5 History check to convince Kagha by reading the plaques in the Emerald Grove and learning the Grove’s history. Rangers and Wood Elves have an auto-success option. However, the party needs to pass a single DC 13 Intelligence check to convince Kagha if the party uses Detect Thoughts at the start instead of the Persuasion check.

Defeat Shadow Druids

Now, you need to fight against the three Shadow Druids. Depending on the dialogue choices, the Kagha will either join your party or fight alongside Shadow Druid. Occupants like Rath and Silver also joined the party against the Shadow Druids. Once you defeat all the enemies out there, Kagha bestows upon them the title of Faithwarden if she survives and the player character is a druid.

Rewards for completing Investigate Kagha Quest in BG3

This quest has two outcomes when it comes to the rewards. No matter the choice you make, you get Hellrider’s Pride which are great gloves for healers. The party can also loot the magical amulet Broodmother’s Revenge off her body if Kagha dies during the fight. The best way to use Broodmother’s Revenge in BG3 would be to equip it to one of your frontline fighters in combat. Likely this character will need the most healing, and will regularly need to drink a potion or receive a healing spell. Additionally, they will be close to enemies with their melee weapon and can easily take advantage of the Poison damage boost as soon as it’s taken effect.

Therefore, you’ll want to time your heels correctly so you don’t lose a turn. For example, if your character drinks a potion, do it with their Bonus Action before attacking. That way, their hits will immediately deal the extra Poison damage and they won’t waste one of those turns. Pale Oak is another reward that you will obtain after completing the quest. Pale Oak is a rare Quarterstaff that grants the Faithwarden’s Vines spell and prevents the wielder from being Ensnared by vines. The Special of this weapon is Faithwarden’s Stride. Druidic vines cannot Ensnare you and do not count as difficult terrain. Faithwarden’s Vines (Spell): A level 1 spell that allows you to conjure magical vines that turn an area into a difficult terrain.
