Discover every One Piece character who has Future Sight. Explore the different modes in which each of them uses the ability as well.

One Piece has 2 main power systems – Haki and Devil Fruits, both of which give huge advantages to wielders. Under Haki, a major component is Observation Haki, significantly enhancing users’ senses while allowing them to assess the emotions, strength, and intent of targets.
While many considered Observation Haki to be inferior to Armament and Supreme King Haki, a game-changing ability was introduced as part of it – Future Sight. As the name suggests, Future Sight allows the user to glimpse into the future. This enhances their combat prowess and lets them react preemptively to opponents’ actions.
This rare skill is seen only among the strongest in One Piece and has completely elevated the standing of Observation Haki. Hence, let us explore every One Piece character who has Future Sight and the unique ways they utilize this ability.
Monkey D. Luffy

As the protagonist aiming to defeat the strongest powers in the world, it comes as no surprise that Luffy can use Future Sight. He awakened this ability during his fight against Katakuri in the Mirror World.
Greatly struggling against his opponent’s Observation Haki and Mochi-manipulation abilities, Luffy calmed his mind and remembered Rayleigh’s teachings. Having gained a lot of experience against Katakuri, he started by predicting his attacks. This slowly evolved from simply predicting to glancing into the future.
By doing this, Luffy could escape Katakuri’s attacks and even counter his punches. This proved crucial to the Straw Hat’s eventual victory. The protagonist went on to make this ability more precise, dodging Kaido’s thunderous attacks in Wano.
Therefore, despite only unlocking Future Sight recently, Luffy has quickly made it his own. He still struggles against extremely powerful and fast opponents, where his body isn’t able to keep up with his mind. Nevertheless, it is sure to prove to be very important to the main character in the Final Saga.
Charlotte Katakuri

The main reason Luffy learned Future Sight in the first place was to defeat Katakuri, a proficient user of the skill. Katakuri’s fame and power can majorly be attributed to this ability, where he is able to see several seconds ahead in the future.
With this, he killed a secretly vengeful guest of Big Mom and predicted Bege’s exact response. Notably, Future Sight pairs very well with Katakuri’s Mochi abilities. During his battle against Luffy, he could evade all of Snakeman’s punches effortlessly.
Katakuri was also the one who stated the rules regarding Future Sight, where remaining calm was a requirement. It is also noted during the Whole Cake Island Arc that Future Sight only gives glimpses into the present future. Hence, in events where Katakuri would intervene, he would have very minimal time to assess the new future brought about by his presence.
Kaido

Katakuri’s application of Future Sight is more strategic, whereas Kaido uses it purely for battle. This was memorably seen in the Wano Arc, where Kaido could glimpse into the future and avoid Luffy’s Red Hawk and Gear 4 attacks. He also proceeded to counter rapidly with his own moves, causing great damage to the protagonist.
While Kaido doesn’t use Future Sight as often as the others, he likely relied on it to become the Strongest Creature. He also has an acute understanding of Observation Haki and its abilities, acting fast with his weapons to throw Luffy off his guard.
Shanks

As one of One Piece’s biggest enigmas, there is very little known about Shanks and his abilities. However, in the Egghead Arc, the Captain of the Red Hair Pirates had a confrontation with Eustass Kid, where he displayed his frightening prowess.
Initially calm and composed, Shanks recognized Kid’s danger upon seeing the future where his opponent would unleash a Damned Punk that would sink his allies’ ships. To ensure there was no unnecessary death and destruction, he moved quickly, defeating his opponent with Gryphon.
This was a jaw-dropping scene displaying the mastery that this Yonko possessed over Observation Haki. It is also worth mentioning that Shanks is the only confirmed user of the Supreme King Haki ability – Observation Killing. This is the perfect counter to Future Sight, preventing others from seeing into his future.
While the ability is yet to come into proper use in the main storyline, it would make him a completely unpredictable opponent who is capable of controlling any battle.
Loki (Unconfirmed)

It has not been officially confirmed in One Piece yet, but many fans presume that we have finally gotten our fifth user of Future Sight. This is none other than Loki, the accursed prince of Elbaph. Ever since his introduction, Loki has been considered one of the most powerful figures in the entire series, strong enough to defeat multiple giants single-handedly. He has been chained up for his crime of killing his father and is believed to destroy the world should he ever escape.
While we have never seen him in action, Loki has already displayed signs of Future Vision. Despite having bandages around his eyes, he could instantly dodge Luffy’s Gear 4 attack. He could also accurately predict Gunko’s strikes on him, which seems to be a step above what basic Observation Haki can do.
Hence, while One Piece has yet to confirm Loki’s ability to use Future Vision, his actions so far strongly suggest it. It would strengthen the reason why the God’s Knights wish to recruit him as well as the underlying trump card behind his strength.
Conclusion
Future Sight is one of the most powerful abilities in One Piece, granting its users a significant advantage in battle. Its rarity stands as a testament to its impact, changing the tides of any and every fight.
As One Piece heads towards its conclusion, fans are eagerly waiting to see how this ability is narratively relevant. There are also hopes to see more characters displaying this skill, with Loki potentially being the next addition.
