These Pokemon are more than just his battle companions; they are his friends, and the bond Ash shares with them is unlike anything else. The coolest of these Pokemon are his Fire-type Pokemon. Some of these are hot-headed, as you may expect, but carry cool abilities and designs. Ash has been backed by several Fire-type Pokemon on his journey, and we’re here to rank the best of them.

5) Quilava
Kicking off this list is Quilava, the evolved form of the beloved Cyndaquil. While Cyndaquil was cute and tender in its design, Quilava evolves into a more rodent-like design, with the flames accentuating its features. While still tender at heart, Quilava is relatively more fearsome when cornered and will fight back with all it has. This Pokemon can utilize its Fire Wheel to defend itself, creating barriers of fire for the perfect defense.
4) Charmander
One of the most iconic Pokemon in Ash’s arsenal, Charmander is a mini fire dragon if we had to simplify it. Charmander was one of the earliest Pokemon introduced in the show, appearing as early as Episode 11, where Ash found the little creature in a rainstorm. While mild in nature, you can easily read the Pokemon’s mood shift through the flame on its tail. The Pokemon is more than capable of holding its own in combat and can incinerate opponents with its Flamethrower.
3) Incineroar
While the other Pokemon on this list are mild, tender, and smaller in size, Incineroar is an absolute unit. Muscular in design, Incineroar is built like a martial artist, and deliberately so. This Pokemon is widely aggressive, violent, and craves validation. Its Flamethrower and Flare Blitz are game-changers and have handed Ash countless victories in the past. The Pokemon knows it is good and carries an air and attitude that reflects that.
2) Infernape
While Incineroar is motivated by validation, Infernape is loyal and will go to any length to fight for those he loves. This Pokemon is calm in nature but isn’t afraid to heat things up in battle. With fire draping its arms and feet, Infernape approaches battle with caution and care, dispatching its opponents with precision. Infernape also shares a strong bond with Ash, going as far as to wreck Paul’s team for its owner, a feat of strength that places him high on this list.
1) Charizard
While Infernape may have the edge in battle, very few Pokemon share a bond with Ash quite like Charizard does. First found as Charmander in Episode 11, the little creature would go on to be loyal to Ash throughout the episodes. Charmander would then evolve into the moody Charmeleon and finally into the powerful Charizard in Episode 46. While immature and arrogant at first, the Pokemon reignites its love and loyalty for Ash, making him one of Ash’s best companions in the show.
