The Expeditions system in Genshin Impact lets you passively collect valuable resources and Mora — unlock it at the Adventurers’ Guild and get started.
Expeditions in Genshin Impact are part of a system to send characters on off-screen fetch quests to gather resources from different areas of the world in real time. The Traveler cannot be sent on Expeditions, and even the characters sent remain available for use as per normal.

How to Unlock Expeditions in Genshin Impact
Expeditions can be unlocked after reaching Adventurer Rank 14 and speaking with Katheryne at any branch of the Adventurers’ Guild. You can send characters on Expeditions to six regions, including Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, Sumeru, Fontaine, and Natlan. Unlock the Statue of The Seven in a region to make its expeditions available. The characters can be sent for 4, 8, 12, or 20 hours in real time. The greater the expedition time, the greater their haul after its completion.
The number of simultaneous Expeditions your characters can carry out also increases with your Adventure Rank:

Sending a Character on an Expedition
To start an Expedition:
- Head to any Adventurers’ Guild and interact with Katheryne.
- Choose the “Dispatch Character on Expedition” dialogue option.
- Pick a region from the left side of the Expedition map.
- Choose from the area markers within the region and select the expedition duration.
- Select the character you want to send.
Once the Expedition is completed, collect the rewards from any Adventurers’ Guild. Some characters have bonuses that activate when you send them to specific regions, so keep an eye out for these on the selection screen. Any uncollected Expedition rewards will be displayed in a notification in the upper-left corner of your screen and should be checked before you log out.
Making the Best Use of Expeditions
Since Expeditions take place in real-time, it is usually a good idea to start as many of them as possible before logging out of the game. If you really want to stay on top of maximizing resource collection from Expeditions, you can download the official HoYoLAB mobile app to keep track of them. Expeditions can also greatly assist in the completion of Battle Pass missions. Since the game considers the chunks collected through expeditions as mined by you, they can easily help complete mundane daily mining missions.
Keep in mind that some expedition areas are more conducive for specific resource-gathering goals that you may have. For example, to forge Mystic Enhancement Ore and 4-star weapons, you will want to target areas that yield Crystal Chunk. These include The Whispering Woods and Dadaupa Gorge in Mondstadt and Yaoguang Shoal in Liyue.
