In this list, we will mention the 5 best antagonists in games based on how well they were written, their charisma, and their influence in the fandom.
1. Sephiroth (Final Fantasy)
Final Fantasy has a great catalog of villains. From Emet-Selch, Kefka, and Ultimecia, there are a bunch of fantastic villains present in the series. However, Sephiroth, the son of Jenova, is a cut above all of them. Sephiroth is a symbol of power and fear and proves it multiple times throughout Final Fantasy VII.

4. Dutch Van Der Linde (Red Dead Redemption 2)
In Red Dead Redemption 2, Dutch van der Linde showcases how he slowly loses his mind. He loses sight of his morals and himself over his goal. Furthermore, this goes to the extent that he prioritizes his goal of going to Tahiti over the people he wanted to do it for. Dutch’s slow descent into villainy is executed so well that it makes him one of the best antagonists in games. It may not be a stretch to say he is Rockstar’s best villain.
5. Albert Wesker (Resident Evil)
Resident Evil’s Albert Wesker is an example of pure power and charisma. While he has no deep backstory or motivations, he relies purely on how cool he is. The best part is that it works. Also, whenever he is on screen, Wesker showcases pure dominance and makes his superiority known with his catchphrases. These factors make him one of the most beloved antagonists in games.
