One of the highlights of the Minecraft Live 2025 livestream was the reveal of a new mob called the Happy Ghast. It’s a Ghast, that’s well, happy and not hostile towards the player. One of the biggest perks to befriending one of these floating mobs is that you can equip them with a harness and ride them. It’s a very useful mechanic that allows you to reach high areas without having to build a 1×1 tower.
If you are curious as to how you can craft a harness for a Happy Ghast in Minecraft, here is how you can do it.

How To Craft Harness for Happy Ghast in Minecraft
Follow this step-by-step guide on how to craft a harness and equip it to a Happy Ghast:
Harness Crafting Recipe
- 3x Leather
- 2x Glass Block
- 1x Wool of Your Preferred Color
How To Craft
- Place the three leathers on the top of the crafting grid horizontally.
- Place a wool below the middle leather.
- Place the two Glass Blocks at the sides of the wool.
Once you place the crafting recipes in the right order, you should be able to get one Harness. The color of the Harness will depend on the color of the wool you use to craft it.

How To Equip Harness to Happy Ghast in Minecraft?
To equip a Happy Ghast with a Harness, simply go near them and press right-click while holding the item. Once they are wearing the Harness, you can ride them similarly to how you ride any other mount in the game. The only difference is, you can fly and control the Happy Ghasts.
Remember to keep your Happy Ghast on a leash while on the ground. They have the tendency to fly away or move around the area. This can be annoying, especially if you can’t reach them. However, if you are near enough, it will try to fly lower so you can reach it.
You can check if a Happy Ghast has a passenger or not through their goggles. If they are not wearing it on their eyes, there is no one controlling it. However, if it’s wearing goggles, there is a player riding it. This is a good indicator so you won’t have to zoom in just to see if someone is riding these mobs.
