Everything you need to know about The First Berserker Khazan’s crashing issues on PC, including the reasons and possible fixes to try.

The First Berserker Khazan is easily one of the best PC ports released so far in 2025. Despite the game using Unreal Engine 4, it’s mostly free of the issues that come with the use of Unreal Engine. However, after the most recent title update, players on PC have been experiencing frequent crashes and freezes during gameplay.
We at Deltia’s Gaming also faced similar issues with the game. Admittedly, crashing is quite a serious issue and something that seems to have been introduced with the latest title update for the game. However, we did test some fixes that helped us get the game running normally, without any more instances of crashes or stuttering.
Here’s everything you need to know about the crashing errors in The First Berserker Khazan’s PC version and the possible fixes that you can try.
Possible Fixes for the Crashing Error in The First Berserker Khazan

The crashing issues mostly seem to be stemming from the latest title update for The First Berserker Khazan. After the update, the game either crashes every time during shader compilation or freezes in the main menu. According to Neople, the crashing instances are reported mostly by players who are using Nvidia’s RTX 40-series GPUs.
Since the game’s early access release, The First Berserker had some conflicts with the latest GPU driver for Nvidia, which was noted by Neople in their official blog post. To remedy this, the developer recommended rolling back driver updates to version 566.36. However, during our initial testing, we didn’t find any major issues with Nvidia’s driver version 372.83.
Additionally, the driver conflicts may be the primary reason behind the crashes; rolling back to 566.36 did not help fix the issue. Instead, during our testing, we found other fixes that helped remedy the crashing issues after update 495103 (March 27, 2025). Here are all the possible fixes that you can try to fix The First Berserker Khazan crashing on PC:
Verify Game Files

Verifying game files right after the update is what helped fix the crashing issues in our case. With most Triple-A and even Double-A titles going well past the 50-100 GB mark, it’s not uncommon for some files to get corrupted during download.
This is where Steam’s file verification tool comes into play. The file verification tool essentially scans the game’s installation directory for faulty, missing, or corrupted files and replaces them with fresh downloads. This process not only serves as an easy fix for errors like crashes but also helps you save time since the alternative would be to uninstall and reinstall the entire game from scratch.
Here’s how you can use the file verification tool:
- Launch Steam > Click on Library.
- Right-click on The First Berserker Khazan from the list of games in your Steam library.
- Click on Properties > Local Files.
- Click on Verify Integrity of Game Files.
- Wait for the files to get checked.
- Once done, launch the game.
Use DirectX 11 API
The First Berserker Khazan comes with support for both DirectX 11 and 12. However, the DirectX 12 version of the game seems to be a tad unstable following the recent update. While we didn’t find any crashing instances with the DX12 API, some players have reported stuttering and even crashes while using it.
As such, we recommend sticking to DirectX 11 for the time being until Neople releases an official update/hotfix for the DX12 version. Given that The First Berserker doesn’t have features like ray tracing, you’re not missing out on much by sticking to DX11.
Lower the Settings

The First Berserker Khazan is incredibly VRAM-heavy, which isn’t surprising considering it’s built using Unreal Engine 4. If you’re playing the game on a GPU with 6 GB or less VRAM, we recommend lowering your settings to Medium for a more stable experience. At 1080p, the game easily goes past the 6 GB VRAM usage. Going past your VRAM limits often results in the game becoming more unstable and crashing. As such, it’s best to reduce your settings if you’re on a mid- to lower-end system.
