The new April Fools snapshot brought tons of fun mechanics. Here is an overview of the Craftmine Update for Minecraft.
Mojang always releases a fun update for the Java version of the game every year on April 1st. 2025 continues to follow this customary practice with the release of the Craftmine snapshot.
This new update introduces the Mine Crafter (ingenious name), which does exactly as its name suggests: crafts a mine. Here is an overview of the Craftmine Update in Minecraft and how you can play this new version with your friends.
How To Play the Minecraft Craftmine Update
You can play this snapshot by using the Minecraft Launcher. After that, follow the steps below to start:
- Firstly, navigate to the Java Edition tab, as seen above.
- To the left of the Play option, you will have the option to switch between various versions of the game.
- Navigate to the latest snapshot, 25w14craftmine, and then click Play. This should install the latest update and put you into the game.
(Note: It is recommended to back up your previous worlds before trying to open them in this version. The snapshot versions could be unstable and might lead to world file corruption or deletion.)

As the name implies, you will now be able to craft your own mines (which are more like levels). The main attraction of this update is the Mine Crafter, which is a special device that will generate various levels for you, depending on the resources you put into it.
Once a level is made, you can jump into it and grab more resources for making different levels. The random elements involved in this level generation will make it fun for players to explore and experiment with this mechanic. Read more in the official announcement made by Mojang here.
