The Chicken Jockey is a rare mob in Minecraft. Learn about its appearance in the game and you can spawn one manually.

In Minecraft, hostile mobs can sometimes spawn with mounts of their own. Spider Jockeys are the most common, combining a skeleton’s range with a spider’s speed. Other rarer examples include Ravager Jockey, Skeleton Horseman, and the Hoglin Jockey. Rarer still is the Chicken Jockey, which made waves as a character in ‘A Minecraft Movie,’ MINECON Live 2019, and Minecraft Live 2020.
The Chicken Jockey is a baby zombie riding a chicken. Although hostile, encounters with the Chicken Jockey can become quite humorous as you are attacked by a tiny undead astride a brave chicken. The chicken is not hostile by itself and reverts to its normal behavior if the baby zombie riding it is killed. However, the real challenge is encountering a Chicken Jockey in the first place.
How Does a Chicken Jockey Spawn in Minecraft?

Java Edition
If you play the Java Edition of Minecraft, the Chicken Jockey is an exceedingly rare spawn. The Chicken Jockey will spawn under the same conditions as a regular zombie, that is to say, at night or in an area with darkness and enough space. For every zombie spawning, there is a 5% chance of a baby zombie appearing. In turn, that baby zombie has a 5% chance of spawning on an existing chicken or with one.
In total, the chance of a zombie spawning as a Chicken Jockey is roughly 0.2%. This increases to nearly 0.5% in an area with chickens present. So, if you were to go into Creative mode and try to spawn a Chicken Jockey using a Zombie Egg, you would probably have to spawn 500 zombies to get 1 Chicken Jockey.
Bedrock Edition
For the Minecraft Bedrock Edition, baby zombies can mount mobs around them before attacking the player. These include everything from adult zombies, spiders, and husks to cows, ocelots, and, of course, the mighty chicken. Baby zombies have a 15% chance of being able to mount other mobs.
Therefore, in Bedrock Edition, you can lure baby zombies to an area with chickens to have a decent chance of creating a Chicken Jockey. Alternatively, you can spawn the two of them together in Creative mode using their respective spawn eggs for a faster result.
Chicken Jockey Spawn Command in Minecraft

The fastest way to get a Chicken Jockey in Minecraft is to use its spawn command. You can do this with a command block in Creative. Search for the command block and place it where you want to spawn the zombie. Right-click (use button) the command block and enter the following command:
- /summon chicken ~ ~ ~ {Passengers:[{id:zombie,IsBaby:1}]}
The command will be executed when the block is given a redstone signal. Place a button on the command block and press it to spawn a Chicken Jockey.
