Defeat mobs in Ominous Trials, unlock hidden vaults, and claim the rare Heavy Core to craft the powerful Mace weapon in Minecraft.
The Heavy Core is a rare item in Minecraft in the 1.21 Tricky Trials update. It can be used to craft a Mace, which deals extra damage with a unique mechanic. To find a Heavy Core, you must complete a Trial Omen, the toughest challenge a Trial Chamber has to offer.
A Trial Chamber is a large structure that spawns underground and contains bountiful loot in its Trial Vaults. The rarest of the vaults, the Ominous Vault, has a slim chance of containing a Heavy Core.
Finding a Heavy Core in Minecraft
To get a Heavy Core, you will have to:
- Locate a Trial Chamber.
- Activate the Trial Omen using a Bad Omen effect.
- Complete the trial by defeating all the spawned mobs.
- Collect the Ominous Trial Key and Open the Ominous Trial Vault.
Trial Chambers spawn underground, at roughly the same depth as iron ore. The fastest way to find one is to follow an Explorer Map, which you can get from trading with a Cartographer Villager. Once inside, try not to trigger the Trial Spawners. They activate when you are in their line of sight. Drink an Ominous Bottle to get the Bad Omen effect.
Raid Captains drop Ominous Bottles outside of village raids. You can find one in a Pillager Outpost. Alternatively, you can complete a Trial Chamber normally and open the Trial Vaults. There is a decent (~16%) chance of getting an Ominous Bottle from any Trial Vault.
Start the Ominous Trial
Drink the Ominous Bottle and approach a Trial Spawner to activate it. All the Trial Spawners in the Trial Chamber will change hue to a shade of blue and transform into Ominous Trial Spawners. Prepare to face a difficult challenge, as more dangerous mobs will spawn.
Enemies like skeletons and zombies will have higher-grade—maybe even enchanted—gear. Carry food or potions with regeneration and a weapon that can deal heavy damage to improve your odds. After eliminating all the mobs, collect the Ominous Trial Keys, which have a chance to appear on top of the spawners.
Open the Ominous Vault
Ominous Vaults have a turquoise tint to them compared to the copper of normal Trial Vaults. The skulls on them have ruby eyes that light up when you approach holding an Ominous Trial Key. They are usually hidden well within the Trial Chamber and require some exploration to locate.
Once you have found one, open it using the Ominous Trial Key. There is a 7-8% chance that an Ominous Vault will contain a Heavy Core. You may have to open multiple Ominous Vaults before finding a Heavy Core. Using a Trial Key consumes it, and a player can only open the same vault once.
