Moving around the floors of your base can be a bit wonky if you continue to use your stairs or cranky ladders. In Minecraft, you can easily create elevators, covering huge distances from the sky to the ground in no time.

Whether you’re in your base or a sky-high base, the elevators can always come in handy. Since the elevator isn’t an innate item in Minecraft, you can get creative. Here’s how you can create an Elevator in Minecraft.

Placing Kelp

For an elevator, you will need a stack of Glass Blocks, one Soul Sand, one Magma Block, and a stack of Kelp. Now, to craft an elevator in Minecraft, place down the Glass blocks in a plus shape, keeping the middle part untouched.

After you have reached your desired height, you can drop a bucket of water into the middle area between the Glass blocks. Once it falls down, you have to plant Kelp from the bottom to top to keep the water stable.

Break the Kelp you have placed and replace the bottom dirt block with Soul Sand. The Soul Sand will create bubbles upwards, which will lift you from the ground to the top. Ultimately, you will reach the top of the Glass blocks you have placed in no time.

For a downward elevator, you can use the Magma Block. The Magma Block creates bubbles downwards that suck you down to the bottom. Follow the similar pattern of placing Glass blocks and Kelp in the water, and replace the Soul Sand with this block.

If you try to make a gate by breaking the Glass blocks, the water will flow out. To stop it from flowing outside, you can place ladders on two extra Glass blocks.

Where to Find Soul Sand?

Soul Sand is only limited to the Nether. It has a brownish color, and whenever you step on the block, you can hear a sound similar to someone’s breathing. Use a shovel to farm it out.

Where to Find Magma Block?

You can find a Magma block in both the Overworld and the Nether. Magma blocks can be discovered on the lake and ocean beds. If you go near them, they will suck you down using their bubbles.
