Find out how you can break cobwebs to collect them in Minecraft and use them for things like slow enemies and making potions.

Cobwebs are blocks in Minecraft that add atmosphere while simultaneously frustrating new players by snaring them. Their appearance is usually accompanied by dangers, e.g. cave spiders, Evokers, and spawners. Knowing how to deal with cobwebs quickly in such scenarios can save valuable time. Cobwebs also have several uses for players once you know how to collect them.
Where To Find Cobwebs in Minecraft
Cobwebs can’t be crafted and generate naturally in several locations across the game world. The most common places to find them include:
- Abandoned mineshafts: These underground structures are filled with cobwebs, especially near cave spider spawners.
- Strongholds: You might spot cobwebs tucked away in library rooms.
- Woodland Mansions: Some rarely feature spider-infested rooms with cobwebs in the corners.
- Spider Spawners: Destroying spider and cave spider spawners becomes all the more difficult with cobwebs surrounding them.
- Igloo basements: You may find cobwebs upon entering these frigid dwellings.
- Trail Chambers: The challenge of Trail Chambers is often compounded by the presence of cobwebs.
How to Get Cobwebs in Minecraft

Mining cobwebs requires the right tool. If you try to break them by hand or with most tools, they’ll just disappear without dropping anything. To harvest cobwebs correctly:
- Shears: Mine a cobweb with shears to collect it as a cobweb rather than breaking it into string. This is the only way to get cobwebs as blocks.
- Sword: This destroys the cobweb quickly and drops string instead of the block.
- Bucket of water: Water flow removes cobwebs instantly and drops string. If you’re clearing out an area filled with cobwebs, using a bucket of water is much faster than mining them manually.
Craft shears using just two iron ingots placed diagonally on the crafting grid. If you need string for crafting bows, fishing rods, or wool, use a sword to break cobwebs fast.
Cobweb Uses in Minecraft

- Mob traps: Cobwebs slow down both players and mobs, making them great for traps or defense mechanisms. This does not work on spiders.
- MLG (Fall-breaking technique): Like water, cobwebs can save you from fall damage by placing them below you at the last moment while falling. A bucket of water can’t be used in the Nether, but cobwebs can be.
- Decoration: Ideal for simulating haunted buildings, old ruins, or dusty attics.
- Redstone contraptions: Used as a delaying mechanism and to slow down the fall of items.
- Potion of Weaving: A cobweb can be placed in a brewing stand with an Awkward Potion to create a Potion of Weaving. When a player or mob with the Weaving potion effect dies, 2-3 cobwebs will spawn around them.
