Our guide takes a look at how you can find Opal in RuneScape Dragonwilds. We have also discussed the use of the item in the game.

Gemstones in RuneScape Dragonwilds are much more than simple shiny stones that you can add to your collection or sell for a nifty profit. Instead, these are rare materials that can help craft or upgrade certain powerful gear. Opal is one of the rare gemstones that you can find in the game.
In this guide, we’ll explain how you can get Opal in RuneScape Dragonwilds and why these rare drops are valuable when trying to make the best gear for your character.
How To Get Opal in RuneScape Dragonwilds

You can get Opal randomly when mining certain ores in the game. You stand the best chance of acquiring the gemstone when you are out mining for Copper, Mining Stone, and Tin. For most players, this highly rare material seems to drop more frequently while mining for these common ores. The drop rate isn’t as frequent when you’re mining for more valuable materials, such as Iron.
Make sure you have a Bone Pickaxe in your inventory before you venture out to mine Tin, Copper, or Mining Stone. The Stone Pickaxe isn’t strong enough for this purpose. You can find all three types of ores in the Fractured Plains region. To make the mining process faster, you can use the Rocksplosion and Detect Ore+Clay abilities.
However, even with a substantial amount of time spent mining the ores, you might not even get one Opal. Some players have reached the late-game stages and have yet to see an Opal drop. That’s why we suggest unlocking the Gem Prospector ability after reaching Level 16 in the Mining skill tree.
Pro Tip: As of this writing, the drop rate of gemstones lowers when your Mining skill reaches the max level. So, it may be better to keep your Mining level well below Level 50 to maximize the chances of finding an Opal. This will probably be addressed in a future update.

How To Use Opal in RuneScape Dragonwilds

You can use Opals to upgrade your weapons and gear. Simply go to the Smithing Anvil and input the armor or weapon you’d like to enhance with the Opal. The Oak Longbow, Dragonfire Shield, and Oak Shortbow are some of the gear that you can upgrade using the Opal in your possession. You can also use Opals as a decoration in certain items, but doing so just for cosmetic upgrades could be wasting such a rare resource.
