Oblivion Remastered is now out, having shadow-dropped earlier this week to immense fanfare. The game takes everything you love about the original and upscales it with modern graphics. The changes are not all visual, as the game also brings in new dialogue lines, quality-of-life improvements, and, most importantly, tweaks to gameplay. The new dodge ability is one of the major tweaks in the remaster that changes how you approach combat in Oblivion.

Dodging is one of the best skills in Oblivion Remastered, adding some much-needed depth to the game’s combat. It also frees you from being stuck with the shield-and-sword playstyle. Instead of relying on a shield for defense (and consequently being forced into a mundane gameplay loop), you can now dash around like a skilled warrior and hack away at enemies.

As cool as the dodge skill is, you may not even know that it exists. You can’t dodge right from the get-go and instead have to unlock the skill. If you’re someone fed up with ducking behind a shield for most of your playthrough, you need the dodge skill. If you don’t know how to unlock the skill and use it, we’re here to help. In this guide, we shall go over how to unlock the dodge skill and use it in Oblivion Remastered.

As stated earlier, you can’t dodge right away and instead have to unlock the skill first. While this may be a little frustrating, it mostly works in your favor as it allows you to familiarize yourself with the basics before jumping into more complex combat mechanics.

The dodge skill falls under the Acrobatics trait of your character. This means you have to level up your Acrobatics to unlock dodge. Take this skill up to the “Apprentice” tier at Level 25 to unlock dodge. You can level up the skill faster by just spamming jump and moving as much as possible.

Once you’ve unlocked the dodge skill, it is time to break some enemy ankles with well-timed dodges. You can dodge by pressing RMB + [Space] in a specific direction. For consoles, this command is RT + Y on Xbox and R2 + Triangle on PlayStation, alongside holding the left stick. Your character will dodge in the direction you move the stick, so read the enemy’s movements and move accordingly.
