Breaking the Siege of Kvatch is the fourth mission in the main quest line of Oblivion Remastered. It involves the player assisting Imperial soldiers in the defense of Castle Kvatch by closing the Kvatch Oblivion Gate and launching a counterattack against the monsters that have poured out of the portal.

This guide will take you through the best route to complete the quest and highlight the dangers to avoid.

To begin the quest, speak to Salvian Matius outside the Kvatch Oblivion Gate. He and the Imperial soldiers are too busy holding out against the creatures pouring out of the gate, leaving you to close it by yourself.

Your character should be decently leveled up for this quest, especially at higher difficulties, as there will be tough enemies ahead. You can also use the Chameleon Spell to skip most of the fighting.

After speaking with Matius, try to avoid enemies and leave them to the soldiers as you make your way to the Oblivion Gate and enter it. Your objective is to climb to the top of the large, bladed tower looming in the distance. There are multiple approaches to the tower, and we will choose the path of least resistance. Take the route on the left to circle around to the main tower. Beware of two consecutive rockfall traps as you approach the bridge over the lava.

After crossing the bridge, steer clear of the Harrada Root plants near the boulder, as they attack if you get too close. As you approach the tower, take the path on the right and enter it using the door that reads “Tower Portal to the Blood Feast.”

As you enter the tower, there will be a spiraling pillar of flame ahead. Head through the doorway on the left, and open the Citadel Hall Door ahead, then the first door on the right. Upon reaching the second floor, open the first door on the right. Head up the stairs and take the central door on the left.

Run across the bridge and open the door to Reaper’s Sprawl. Run up the stairs, defeat the Dremora Sigil Keeper, and loot the Sigil Keeper Key from him.

Return to the previous tower across the bridge. Open the Citadel Hall Door using the key, head up the stairs, and go through the door on the right. Head up the tower by taking the path to the left side and interact with the Ruined Portal to the Blood Feast. Upon teleporting higher through the Ruined Portal, continue ascending the tower in a clockwise direction until you arrive at the Door to Sigillium Sanguis on the left. Open the door using the key, enter the room ahead, and climb up the rib-like stairs to the right. Continue heading right until you come across stairs leading to the upper floor. There, you will find the burning Sigil Stone.

Interact with the Sigil Stone and back away from it. Survive for around half a minute until you are teleported out. The Kvatch Oblivion Gate is now closed, but the siege still continues. Defeat all remaining enemies and speak with Salvian Matius. Launch a counterattack with the soldiers by heading through the Gate to Kvatch. Eliminate all enemies and talk to Salvian Matius. Follow him into the chapel, where he will rendezvous with the surviving soldiers. The quest Breaking the Siege of Kvatch concludes here, transitioning into the next mission: The Battle for Castle Kvatch.
