Selling loot gathered during your adventures is the primary method of earning gold in Oblivion Remastered. The Mercantile skill dictates how much of an item’s value you can receive from a vendor upon selling it. At the same time, it reduces the buying price of items and influences haggling.

The closer your Mercantile skill is to getting maxed out, the closer you get to buying and selling items at their base price, since vendors buy items for less than their base value and sell for more. At low levels, players are at the mercy of shopkeepers, often forced to accept poor offers or pay premium prices.

Leveling up to Journeyman and Expert in Mercantile improves deals, allows selling any item to any vendor, and unlocks investing in shops. This becomes particularly valuable in the mid-to-late game, when you’re hauling expensive loot that most merchants can’t afford to purchase with their total available gold.

Mercantile levels up naturally based on the cost of the items sold to the vendor. Since the skill is directly responsible for your earned gold and has considerable perks, seeking out trainers to advance it quickly is worth it.

To receive training in Mercantile, speak to the following merchants across Cyrodiil. When the dialogue options open up, you will spot the “Train” option at the bottom left, between the exit and bartering buttons. The cost of training increases along with the skill’s level. You can only train a particular skill 5 times per level.
