The Rocket Launcher is one of the most devastating weapons available in Doom The Dark Ages. However, you’ll need to be careful when firing it, as the blasts can cause damage to you as well if you are caught in their radius. With weapon upgrades, you can sometimes turn this drawback into an advantage as well. For instance, the first-tier upgrade for the weapon, Cannibalism, allows you to heal yourself after parrying a Hell Surge attack and inflicting temporary self-damage at first.

In tier 2, you can take this effect further, but you’ll need to choose from two available mods, Cooked and Blood Sacrifice. In this guide, we’ll explain which of these upgrades works better for you for the Rocket Launcher in Doom The Dark Ages.

What Is the Cooked Upgrade for the Rocket Launcher in Doom The Dark Ages?

In tier 2, the first upgrade you can pick is Cooked. With it, whenever you parry a Hell Surge projectile, the next shot from your Rocket Launcher will become empowered. Empowered shots from the weapon do much more damage than normal rockets do. So, if you have mastered parrying Hell Surge projectiles, this is a worthwhile upgrade to pick.

What Is the Blood Sacrifice Upgrade for the Rocket Launcher in Doom The Dark Ages?

If you go with the Blood Sacrifice mod, your projectiles from the Rocket Launcher will cause greater splash damage. This means anyone caught in the blast radius will suffer increased damage, which includes you. So, if you stand too close while firing, the increased splash damage will apply to you as well. You can offset some of that damage with the tier 1 Cannibalism upgrade, but self-damage infliction can become risky when facing larger hordes.

Which Upgrade Should You Choose?

While both upgrades can be useful, we suggest going with Cooked. It is the safer option among the two. Also, if you can parry the Hell Surge projectiles perfectly, you get more damage out of the next shot you fire from the Rocket Launcher. Blood Sacrifice, on the other hand, may result in you losing significant health due to the increased splash radius. So, the drawbacks can outweigh the upgrade’s benefits.
