In Dune Awakening, you will be forced to pick a side in an ongoing war between the houses of Atreides and Harkonnen. If you decide to work for the former, you will often receive certain faction quests from a man named Tolliver. One of these quests is the Test of Cunning.

In it, you will need to rely more on your wits and your silver tongue than your weapons. The primary goal is to dig up some dirt on a key House Harkonnen representative named Maxim Kazmir. In the following guide, we’ll explain how you can begin and finish the Test of Cunning quest in Dune Awakening.

How To Start the Test of Cunning Quest in Dune Awakening

The Test of Cunning quest is part of your initiation into House Atreides and involves no fighting. All you need to do to begin this quest is to start the joining process for the faction and then speak to Lieutenant Tolliver at The Anvil location. The House Atreides representative will give you the details of the quest and send you on your way. The goal is to find a Harkonnen trooper named Lanov at the Riftwatch location, which is east of The Anvil.

How To Complete the Test of Cunning Quest in Dune Awakening

Begin your journey to Riftwatch, which is a location you will visit early on in the game. When you have this quest active, the marker should appear on your map, making it easier for you to track Lanov. Make sure you have your Sandbike by this point in the game, as making the journey east would be too perilous otherwise.

Inside Riftwatch, you should be able to find Lanov easily. He’s a Semuta addict whom you need to interrogate without the trooper becoming suspicious of your true identity. Simply pretend to be a Harkonnen officer there on a routine inspection. Lanov won’t doubt you this way, and he’ll readily reveal all of the dirt about Maxim Kazmir. Once you have all the relevant information, you’ll need to return to The Anvil and report to Tolliver. This will mark the end of the Test of Cunning quest.

However, your initiation into House Atreides isn’t over. Tolliver will send you out to complete one more quest, after which you will finally become a sworn member of the faction. But you can also betray your faction if you change your mind later on.
