Dune Awakening offers much more than simple survival mechanics or base management. You can take on a variety of quests, some of which are part of bigger questlines. And these aren’t simply fetch quests all of the time. Some of them will have you actually scratching your brains trying to solve a puzzle within.

One of the finest examples of this is The Jackal quest. It is part of the Assassin’s Handbook questline, which involves several other quests. You will need to infiltrate a location and kill the target, named The Jackal, discreetly. In the following article, we’ll explore how you can begin and complete The Jackal quest in Dune Awakening.

How To Start The Jackal Quest in Dune Awakening

Since this particular quest is part of a larger questline, it will begin when you report back to Elara Tuek to complete the previous quests in the series, Water Fat and The Last Target. Once these two are complete, Elara, on behalf of Count Fenring, will ask you to assassinate The Jackal. He is posing as a beggar and sowing dissent among the lower classes of Arrakeen.

However, you can’t just go in guns blazing. Instead, you need to discreetly take out the target. The game doesn’t even let you carry any weapons inside the quest area, apart from a Shigawire Garrote that Elara will give to you. This item is discreet enough to pass through any scans on your way inside the Arrakeen Warrens location.

The first part of this quest involves locating the Jackal’s Alley in the Warrens area. To do this, proceed to the southern part of the Warrens and explore the smaller pathways where you can usually find beggars lingering. In one of these paths there’ll be a cracked wall that you can squeeze through. This is the way inside Jackal’s Alley.

Once you’re in, you will need to speak with three distinct NPCs to gather a phrase that will force The Jackal to reveal himself, allowing you to take him down.

  • Right at the entrance, you will need to speak to the NPC named The Wolf. This character will ask you to solve a riddle before he’ll give you part of the phrase that you need. The answer to his question is ‘seek,’ which is also the first word in the phrase you need to tell The Jackal.

  • Next, look for the Beggar NPC. He can’t speak, but he will clearly refer to the word ‘Footprint.’ He will also point to an exact location where you can find The Jackal, but don’t go there yet.

  • Lastly, speak with a slightly deranged NPC, The Vulture. Make sure you are polite to him and feed into his intricacies. He will reveal the word ‘worm.’

Once you have all three words, you can proceed to the location the Beggar mentioned. You will find The Jackal standing next to a tent. Say the complete phrase: I seek the footprints of the worm. The Jackal will reveal himself and then provide you with vital information related to the Fremen. After he is done speaking, you can either choose to kill him as instructed or not.

However, regardless of your choice, the outcome will always be the same and a cutscene will start playing. This will end the quest. As a reward, you will receive The Jackal’s Blindfold headgear item. It is a piece of light armor that offers 15% resistance to poison.
