Death Stranding 2 Inventor Guide: How To Get Otter Hood

In Death Stranding 2, the Inventor residing on an island is a prepper who cannot be accessed through the road. He is not a main story NPC, meaning you don’t have any mandatory orders that you need to deliver to him. But you get hints about where he is while talking to Olivia Westbury at West Fort Knot. Getting to the Inventor in DS2 also unlocks the Otter Hood in-game.

Death Stranding 2: How To Get To The Inventor

There are two ways to get to the Inventor in Death Stranding 2: using the monorail and walking through the tar pit. Since there are no active orders for the Inventor, gather lost cargos meant for the location from the coastline opposite the island on the mainland before making the trip. Once you deliver the lost cargo, the Inventor will ask you to connect him to the chiral network.

Using The Monorail

You will have to complete the monorail tracks from West Fort Knot to South Distribution Center. The track from West Fort Knot to Mine North of F1 will be completed as a result of a main order. The section from Mine North of F1 to South Distribution Center needs to be completed by supplying required materials to each terminal visible on the map. Once you have the entire thing completed, follow these steps:

• Take a monorail from West Fort Knot to South Distribution or vice versa.
• When you reach near the island where the Inventor is, Hold X to jump off the monorail and drop onto the island. Since you have to hold the button, account for the time gap and aim accordingly so you don’t miss the island.

Walking Through Tar

This is a little tricky, but can be done with time and patience. Once you are near the coastline and can see the island, scan with your Odradek. The scan will show red and yellow dots on the tar pit. You can carefully walk through the yellow section and make your way towards the Inventor. Keep in mind not to stray into the red areas, or you may drown. Also, you cannot make this trip with any vehicle, as that will instantly sink into the tar.

Death Stranding 2: How To Get Otter Hood

You can get the Otter Hood in Death Stranding 2 by connecting the Inventor to the chiral network. To do so, you need to bring lost cargos meant for the Inventor during your first trip to the island.

Death Stranding 2: How To Use Otter Hood

The Otter Hood can be worn as headgear by Sam from the customization option. It greatly helps in swimming and also ensures that you never drown. To equip the Otter Hood, hold left on the D-pad, select Head, and press X to wear the Otter Hood. The Otter Hood gets automatically put over Sam’s head when equipped when he is swimming or under timefall.

The in-game description for Otter Hood is as follows:

“A hood shaped like an otter, and designed using all of the Inventor’s intelligence and know-how. Wearing the hood makes you feel like an otter, greatly improving your swimming abilities. When equipped, Sam will automatically pull the hood over his head during periods of timefall or white swimming.”
