BTs, or Beached Things, in Death Stranding 2 are the creatures that have created a dreadful environment in the game. They are not easy to take down because usual weapons don’t even budge them. Moreover, they are also invisible to most of the population in Death Stranding and can leave you with fatal damage after every encounter if you are not careful enough. So, it becomes essential for players to learn how to avoid or kill these creatures.

Players in the game are presented with two choices when encountering BTs. They can either avoid or kill them. Both of them come with their own pros and cons, and require different strategies. First and foremost, you must know how to detect a BT. These ghost-like creatures haunt the ground you walk on in the Death Stranding series. You can’t see them unless you are equipped with a Bridge Baby (BB) or have DOOMS. (Un)fortunately, Sam, the protagonist of the series, is equipped with a BB named Lou and also has a bad case of DOOMS.

If you are in a BT-affected zone, you can’t miss the first signs because it makes the sky darken to reddish-brown. The background music will also become ominous all of a sudden. This is where you can start using your Odradek, a device equipped on Lou that shows how close you are to a BT. The long arm and its flaps will flash in the direction of a nearby BT.

Avoiding BTs lets you exit an encounter without risking your neck in the process. You will need to rely heavily on your Odradek to keep track of the nearby BTs. When your Odradek warns you of a nearby entity, crouch and move quietly in the opposite direction. If you run or make any sudden movements, you will be spotted. Also, if you happen to brush past a BT in an unfortunate turn of events, simply hold your breath to remain undetected.

In case you get spotted, the ground will turn into a thick, gooey black tar, and BT bodies will emerge. This is when you can make a run for it, press square to shake off any BTs and keep holding L2 and R2 to maintain your balance, just like you would while crossing a river. Keep running until you are away from the BT zone. No matter how careful you are, you are bound to face a BT at some point in the game, whether in the harsh open world of Death Stranding 2 or during the boss fights.

You will need special anti-BT weapons for the same, which you can eventually unlock. To kill BTs, special equipment like the Blood Grenades, can help. You can store them in your Grenade Pouch, hold L2 to line up your shot, and press R2 to throw the grenade. However, only release the shot if there is a red shadow on the BT because it ensures that the grenade will hit the intended target. You will eventually unlock guns that shoot anti-BT rounds.
