Death Stranding 2 Timefall Explained

Death Stranding 2 players will be no strangers to timefall if they have played the first title. For those who haven’t and are directly jumping into the sequel (not something we suggest), you will be spending long stretches of your porter journey in the rain. You will see the hood over Sam automatically come up when timefall begins. This is no normal precipitation and can hamper your progress if you are unprepared.

Death Stranding 2: What Is Timefall

Timefall is a type of rain or snow in Death Stranding 2 that can age anything it falls upon or touches, whether it’s a living thing or an inanimate object. This form of precipitation appeared after the Death Stranding. You may notice an inverted rainbow when timefall begins. It is also almost a given that you will encounter timefall when you enter a BT-infested area.

Black strands that appear during timefall are known to cause “spikes in chiral density and anomalies in electromagnetic fields.” This results in timefall impacting electrical weapons and causing blackouts.

What Is Timefall Farming?

The UCA has been known to use timefall to “deliberately accelerate the passage of time” in certain cases, such as growing crops more quickly. This method is dubbed timefall farming.

How Does Timefall Affect Your Playthrough in Death Stranding 2?

Spending a prolonged period in timefall in Death Stranding 2 will damage your cargo and vehicle. Container Repair Sprays will come in handy in this case, as they can undo the damage caused by timefall. A Timefall Shelter also reverses the damage, and you can store your cargo within this structure for prolonged periods without worry. Neither Container Repair Sprays nor Timefall Shelters will work if the cargo becomes fully damaged.

For vehicles, you will need to enter bases with garages (such as knot cities or the DHV Magellan) to repair vehicle. Spending time in timefall can also restore your Canteen. In the first game, Fragile mentions that cryptobiotes help counteract timefall.

How Is Rainy Involved With Timefall in Death Stranding 2?

Rainy calls forth timefall every time she steps outside. This was the reason she was ostracized and isolated by society. We learn more about this when Fragile discusses Rainy’s backstory and powers. Interestingly, Rainy is able to summon another unique type of precipitation, corefall, which can reverse the impact of timefall. In our first meeting with the character, we see her nurse a bird back to health after it had fallen during timefall.
