Death Stranding 2 builds on the gameplay mechanics that it introduced in the first game. However, there are several aspects where the latest entry innovates and improves on the established formula.

For instance, in the previous game, you could only improve Sam and his abilities to haul huge amounts of cargo by equipping him with better gear as the game progressed. In this second iteration, there’s an additional way to build on Sam’s existing abilities via the APAS Enhancements. However, unlocking each Enhancement requires you to spend a certain amount of APAS Memory.

If you’re looking to unlock as many of the APAS Enhancements as possible, the following guide will explain how you can increase Memory in Death Stranding 2.

Understanding Why You Need To Increase Memory in Death Stranding 2

APAS Memory is a type of in-game points system that you can use to equip different APAS Enhancements on Sam. Each of these Enhancements has an associated Memory that you need to activate it. If you have as much or more Memory accumulated, you will be able to unlock that particular Enhancement.

This particular gameplay feature unlocks early on in the game. However, you begin with just 150 APAS Memory in your kitty. You can use this to activate only a few basic abilities. If you want the more interesting Enhancements, you’ll have to earn more of the APAS Memory.

You have two primary ways of acquiring more Memory to spend on even more Enhancements. These include:

Connect Locations to the Chiral Network

In Death Stranding 2, Sam is on his way across Australia trying to connect more of the locations to the Chiral Network. He has the Q-pid to allow him to connect the various centers and facilities to the overall network. Whenever you connect a new area to the Chiral Network, Sam will earn some APAS Memory.

This can range between 20 and 35 points. So, it’s always beneficial to go around the different facilities and connect them to the larger network. Since many of these connections are part of the main story, simply playing through the campaign will help you earn more APAS Memory points to spend.

Increase Facility Connection Levels

An alternative way to earn some APAS Memory would be to unlock new Connection Levels with the various centers and bases you come across. Returning lost cargo to a destination facility or performing suborders for them will help you increase a facility’s connection level significantly. However, even when you reach the new connection levels, you’ll earn around 15 APAS Memory points from each, which isn’t as much as the first method.
