Death Stranding 2 requires players to manage various metrics in order to effectively traverse across the harsh terrains. Analyzing the terrain structure using the Odradek scanner and managing your stamina meter is key to climbing and crossing difficult structures and objects. While exploring the realms, you will also notice a bar with a boot icon located on the lower left of the screen, beneath the equipment HUD.

If you thought the bar was tied to your stamina, it is not. Instead, it displays your boots’ durability, indicating how long your boots can last before wearing out.

Boots play a crucial role in exploring the terrains, as they protect your feet while climbing or walking over harsh surfaces. If the boot meter becomes empty and starts blinking, it means your equipped boots are about to break. You cannot actually restore the durability of a boot or refill the bar once it’s depleted. The only solution is to fabricate and equip a new set of boots. Here is how it works in Death Stranding 2.

Just like the other equipment, you can craft boots using the Fabricate Equipment option at any Delivery Terminal. There are several types of boots—including Transporter Boots, Combat Boots, and Sneaking Boots—each with unique strengths. You can craft the basic Transporter Boots using 16 Resins.

Your boot durability can be identified by the different color-coded indicators along with the notification on the left side of the screen. Once the bar becomes empty, you must immediately replace your equipped boots. You can equip new boots either through the Cargo Shelf or the Equipment Wheel using the Put on Footwear option. This replaces your worn-out boots and refills the boot bar. Fabricating and carrying a spare set of boots in your backpack is essential for survival.

However, here is a pro tip: you can actually carry boots by attaching them to your Boot Clip for effective backpack and cargo management.
