Death Stranding 2’s world is a mess, but a mess that you’ve taken the responsibility to fix. On your path to reconnect the world, you fight countless enemies, raid dozens of camps, sneak by the terrifying BTs, deliver tons of cargo, and most of all, spend a good time taking care of Lou.
Lou, also known as BB-28, is your constant companion throughout your journey in Death Stranding 2. Being a baby, Lou can sometimes slip into a foul mood, something you don’t really wish to see. One of the best ways to lift Lou’s spirits is by playing the Harmonica.
The Harmonica, a fan-favorite item from the original Death Stranding, returns in this sequel with a stronger purpose of soothing Lou. Although Sam had the Harmonica at the end of the first game, it’s notably missing during the early hours of Death Stranding 2. How To Obtain and Play the Harmonica in Death Stranding 2

As stated earlier, the Harmonica will be a notable omission from your inventory early on in the game. To obtain it, you simply have to keep playing the game and progress through the story. Once you reach Episode 3, the Harmonica will automatically be added to your inventory, and you can use it as and when needed.
If you wish to use the Harmonica in Death Stranding 2, follow the steps given below:
- You cannot use the Harmonica when moving around. If you wish to use it, you first need to rest. Press the Square key to drop onto the floor and relax.
- Once you’re resting, open the gear menu by pressing the left arrow key on the D-pad. This will open a gear wheel. You can then equip the Harmonica in the top left corner of this wheel (first slot anticlockwise). Press the X key to equip the Harmonica.
- Press the right side of your touchpad to play the Harmonica.
